  If that doesn't work look at your Sounds/Recording settings and make sure the mic is the default input device. Then (IIRC the nano also has audio passthrough) if you are 'monitoring' or using the sound card in your mic for output make sure it is the default Playback device. I suggest using a free utility that will let you toggle through between your default outputs and recording devices with a keyboard shortcut... Source: about 2 years ago

  SoundSwitch control audio out/inputs with profiles set to hotkeys. I have pageup= speakers and an empty mic input, pagedown= headset and mic. The tray icon shows the current profile's device icon so I changed them in windows sound->playback->properties to show it like this. Source: about 2 years ago

• My PC has a front audio jack for headphones and a rear audio jack for speakers. After plugging in headphones for the first time and then unplugging them, the speakers won't work anymore.

I used that with my headphone amp so that when I turn on the headphone amp, Windows switches the audio to that. When I turn off the amp, audio returns to the receiver and the speakers.
