  • Self hosting Rocket.chat
I'm considering switching from Matrix / Element to rocket.chat for a small instance (< 10 people) I host for my friends. However there is something during the setup process that gives me pause:. Source: 10 months ago
  • Answer honestly: How many of you are gradually moving away from Discord to alternatives and how are you handling it?
Depends on what do you exactly mean, but the obvious answers to this question are either: Revolt, Matrix(for instance, Element, etc.), Guilded, etc. I suppose rocket.chat and Slack could be considered as well. Source: 10 months ago
  • Rocket.chat - docker compose
Trying to setup rocket.chat in portainer. Can anybody post correct docker compose here? Source: 11 months ago
  • Zulip vs NextCloud for Team Communication
I tested zulip and rocket.chat some time ago (2yrs?), I do like the UI of slack so mattermost was (maybe still is?) the closest in selfhosting. LDAP is a paid feature on mattermost, zulip seems to have it for free. Source: 11 months ago
  • open-source / 3rd party 1:1 direct messaging integrations for Node.JS
The site is built in Node.JS and front-end HTML (EJS to be exact). I have no clue where to look anymore, tried some open-source stuff like rocket.chat and matrix.org but nothing works the way I want it to. Not sure if it's even possible. The goal is to have customers and owners be able to chat with each other directly through the platform. Source: 11 months ago
  • FEL Holders Needed for Testing: 3D Printed M18A1 Claymore Mine
Yah, I had to sign up for rocket.chat, then dispensed deterrence and then Github and I still couldn't log in. It was a mess. Source: 12 months ago
  • Web server, Rocket.chat and Nextcloud on the same server
I need a web server, rocket.chat and next cloud. I can create multiple virtual machines to handle these but can I, or should I avoid, installing them on the same server? I'm thinking Ubuntu 22.04 server for the distro. This is all for personal use, for me and my family. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Notion-like self-hosting alternative for project management?
Does someone recommend me a good alternative? I've checked outline but it seems lacking a lot of these features, plus they over rely on google and slack... And I'm also planning on creating a rocket.chat server for a self-hosted slack alternative. Source: over 1 year ago

  • I‘m not sure what I‘m doing
Assuming rocket.chat supports SSL then you could get a domain with an SSL for dirt cheap then install that cert on your chat system. Source: over 1 year ago

  • Free WebApps like Wordpress, Wiki.js and Rocket.Chat for Communities around Linux Distros
On the WebApp Store everyone can install Wordpress to build a Website to announce a Linux Distro, use Wiki.js to create a powerful and extendable documentation and install Rocket.Chat (like Slack in OpenSource) to communicate with the Community. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Advice on project management and/or groupware service (calendar, tasks, chat, channels) for research project
Nextcloud on its own or with rocket.chat / mattermost / some other tool which enables channels/chat. Nextcloud does come with shared calendars and a kanban board app, which seems fine. I'm less sure of integrating rocket.chat or mattermost with it, because of technical limitations (the software's, but my own even more). In any case, the interface is a little messy, the desktop clients don't work for our... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Slack Price Increase beginning Sep 2022
Can recommend Rocket Chat if your looking for an open source alternative to Slack. https://rocket.chat/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Trying out communication apps to hone my team's productivity and to make our system more organized at work.
My Personal Choices and Recommendation: Chanty and RocketChat. Gathertown is also a good thing to add in as one of your virtual offices but it’s not appropriate for daily use. I just recently encountered Vocal and my team uses this one at the moment, It’s also an alternative for slack and has the same vibes but this one is more convenient since you can use video chat. It’s a voice-first app with virtual offices... Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Why does element has data linked to me on iOS?
I really like XMPP and it was great on ICQ-times. For a long time I had my own server (ejabberd, openfire and some others). But it was mainly for one or two friends. No acceptance in family, so migrated back to mail and sms and the family to the whole zoo of messengers. I think XMPP was to late when jumping to the phone and the missing webclient is the other point. It's a pitty. Beside some Callmanager- and... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Why do people still recommend Matrix.
