If you go to ecosia.org or qwant.com on any mobile browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.,.) and search for ghandi you also get no results. Its only when the search query ends in ghandi, for example "ghanid date of birth" returns results fine. Source: about 3 years ago

Added it using the extension? Well, there is a better way. First remove the extension. Second, in the search bar type https://qwant.com and go to the website. Now right click on the search bar and you will see an option to add Qwant to the list of search options. Just add it and you will not see any pop ups. Source: almost 4 years ago

Swisscows and Qwant are also good options, but both heavily rely on Bing, and in some cases pass your request on directly (which would include metadata like IP address), so will feed the Microsoft tracking beast to some extent. Source: almost 5 years ago
