I'd definitely look into pywal for that, it's like a colorscheme manager that fills in templates (some already implemented but it also supports user templates) from either a color scheme you define or by color picking an image. Source: over 3 years ago

However, I also feel that it is important to state that the .Xresources file located in your home directory isn't the only way to add a value to the xrdb (Xresources database). Plenty of other applications such as pywal can be used to contribute to xrdb.
