  If you really want to use the vanilla launcher I won't stop you, but I think you will get farther using something like Prism Launcher; it's a lot lighter-weight than CurseForge (and honestly the vanilla launcher too), and you'll just have 1 icon per Minecraft modpack you want to open; no need to worry about "forge installers" or "setting the game directory" or whatnot. The built-in mod browser can pull from both of the 2 main modding sites, the interface shows more mods in the list, and it overall responds faster, but it will not automatically download dependency mods.
