I have also heard good things about PloudOS so you could try that, but keep in mind that most free hosting services like this or aternos will not perform well even on vanilla. Source: almost 4 years ago

Right now the official Minecraft VR is absolutely terrible if you have java I suggest Vivecraft or MCXR. I use MCXR because of the sodium support. If you want you can try ploud os https://ploudos.com/en/ which is a free Minecraft hosting service that allows java-bedrock crossplay(check the faq). Based on a survey of user discussions and product mentions, PloudOS emerges as a noteworthy contender in the realm of free game server hosting, particularly for Minecraft. The platform is primarily distinguished by its cost-free service model, making it an attractive option for users seeking economic solutions without sacrificing essential features.
PloudOS is described as a user-friendly, web-based hosting service that facilitates the hosting of Minecraft servers. It stands out by providing a seamless integration experience with numerous games through additional servers. This capability enhances its appeal by offering complete compatibility, thereby satisfying a diverse range of gaming requirements.
One of PloudOSโs most lauded attributes is its accessibility. Users consistently highlight the platformโs quick installation and straightforward configuration process. This ease of use is further amplified by the platform's support for multiple customizable elements such as Minecraft skins. Such flexibility is crucial for gamers and hobbyists eager for personalized experiences without navigating complex setups.
Additionally, PloudOSโs support for cross-platform play, specifically Java-Bedrock crossplay, is frequently noted in user discussions. This integration allows players on different Minecraft editions to join the same server, which is a significant advantage for communities with varied platform preferences. Advanced users appreciate the option to extend these capabilities further by employing third-party plugins like GeyserMC and Floodgate to enhance Bedrock compatibility.
Despite its strengths, PloudOS shares common challenges prevalent among free hosting services. Users express concerns about performance, particularly when hosting intricate configurations like modpacks or resource-intensive game modes. As seen across similar platforms like Aternos, performance limitations are a recurring theme, with many users cautioning against expecting high performance, even on vanilla setups. Thus, PloudOSโs appeal is often balanced by practical considerations regarding server capacity and responsiveness.
In the broader context of free cloud hosting and game server services, PloudOS competes with several other providers such as Aternos, Minehut, and Server.pro. Among these, its distinctive offerings include its web-based interface and crossplay support, which can be particularly appealing for users seeking ease of use and broad compatibility.
For individuals or communities recently impacted by service issues with other hosting solutions (e.g., Oracle Cloud account terminations), PloudOS is frequently recommended as a viable free alternative, positioning it as a practical entry-level choice amid the competitive landscape.
In conclusion, PloudOS is a robust, free option for hosting Minecraft servers, known for its simplicity and wide compatibility range. While it holds its ground against competitors due to these strengths, potential users should be mindful of the inherent performance constraints typical of free hosting services. As such, PloudOS is well-suited to users prioritizing cost-saving and compatibility over high-performance demands.
