I got into it using a website called Piskel. It's really beginner friendly, its free and online, and its pretty good for what it is. All it's really missing is an alpha channel, so you can't adjust the opacity of pixels. If you really get into it, I would recommend moving to something like Photoshop, Krita or Aseprite. In the online app Piskel (piskelapp.com which you can see exactly what I mean without signing up or anything) you can work on an animation while simultaneously having your navigator playing said animation. When you make a stroke you see it update in real-time within the animation preview window leading to a more fluid animation experience.
