  • what are you doing to save money on food?
    2) Some foods fill you up more than others, even if you eat the same quantity. This is the food’s satiety. There are websites that can give you the satiety index for lots of different foods. For example, the nutrition data website allows you to search for particular foods, and it tells you every nutrient found in it, along with its satiety index. Excellent for nerding out. • Is there any official charts or statistics about amount of fructose in fruits and berries?
Was it this? https://nutritiondata.self.com It lists fructose if you click on “more details” below the carbohydrates. Source: about 1 year ago
  • ... Am I just missing something and have been entering calories wrong this whole time or are Josh's calculations just off? Lol
This link has a lot of good info. Hope it helps! Source: about 1 year ago
  • How can one be sure to eat all relevant nutrients?
In practice, once you've settled on some dietary routine, one can just do a 'spot check' on a typical daily diet, just to see if there may be some nutrient that is of particular concern. For me, its typically magnesium or zinc. If you want to increase intake of some particular nutrient, you can use the Nutrient Search Tool on https://nutritiondata.self.com/ to search through the USDA nutrition databases by amounts... • Is it necessary to eat a variety of fruits, or can I eat the same fruit every day and have my fruit needs met?
You could look up the nutrients in it. I used to use nutritiondata.self.com, but they still haven't updated their system to show amino acids after Flash stopped being supported. And the main reason I liked them in particular is that most nutrition labels don't include essential amino acids. Source: over 1 year ago
  • So I reeealy underestimated the volume of 2500 non junk food calories. How do I eat so much?
Nuts and fats are calorie dense. Use cronometer to see what high volume foods you can replace with low volume foods. Nutrient search tool, is also helpful in creating a custom eating plan: nutritiondata.self.com (drop down under tools). Source: over 1 year ago
  • What's the importance of Carbohydrates and Fat for fitness?
Oh absolutely, those were just examples. There are other sources like walnuts and flax seeds for example. To find more use this nutrient search tool and select for foods that are highest in Omega-3 fatty acids https://nutritiondata.self.com That server is busy during the day so you might get a time out, but there other resources too you can search on like cronometer. • How can milk of different brands have such varying amounts of vitamins and minerals?
I use this website to look up nutritional data on common food products. This product is soy milk 1 cup and it shows 60mg calcium or 6% dv. Meanwhile, Silk Soy Milk contains 450mg calcium or 30% dv. Source: over 1 year ago
  • How are you calorie counting? I'm trying to weigh my food, but different sources tell me wildly different calorie contents
Your chickpea comparison is cooked chickpeas including some of the liquid in the can vs dry, uncooked chickpeas while cooked, drained chickpeas would be a third weight. Grains and legumes absorb water as they cook while other foods may lose water as they cook. It can be difficult to find the right entry the first time. When in doubt, I check the USDA's database or use https://nutritiondata.self.com/ (which uses... Source: over 1 year ago

Https://nutritiondata.self.com is also handy for looking things up. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Database of Omega 3 - 6 balance scores for various foods. Courtesy of Bill Lands
His score is a combination of total amounts and ratios. If the ratio is even but there's a lot of both omega 6 and omega 3 it will get a lower score. So the score is lowered if omega 6 is higher even if there's a lot of 3 to balance it. I haven't found what food data he's basing the scores on but this website does give total amounts for a lot of foods: https://nutritiondata.self.com Their server seems a bit weak... • Amino Acid Profile Website/App
I am looking for a website or app that gives a simple amino acid profile of a specific food. As in, the amino acids in a food, and the amount of the amino acid. Of course additional nutritional info would be awesome! I had used nutritiondata.self.com for a while, but the website seems to not be working so well without java. Any alternatives? • White rice as a staple food
The problem is not so much that it is an empty carb — most staple carbs are relatively empty. Don't believe me? Go to https://nutritiondata.self.com/ and compare them all. Source: about 2 years ago
  • How can you turn 'rice and beans' into a nutritionally complete dish?
I highly encourage the nutrition curious to get a CRONometer account, and play around in it with some sample daily diets to get a sense for what they might be lacking. The next step would be learning about which foods are particularly high in some nutrients from nutrition databases. I use http://nutritiondata.self.com/ when I'm lazy and a spreadsheet I made excerpted from the USDA database when I want more info.... Source: over 2 years ago
  • anon makes a discovery
Data from https://nutritiondata.self.com/ which sources from the FDA yields 1-20 kg of CO2 per 1000 calories of food, depending on source:. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Is there any app/site that gives an estimate nutrition score for most foods?
Https://nutritiondata.self.com/ might be close to what you're looking for. Source: over 2 years ago
  • MICROnutrient Trackers
I used to use nutritiondata.self.com but its owner no longer seems to give the site any love, and the Flash player that is required to display some of its most valuable charts is no longer supported by Adobe. I used to track both in MyFitnessPal AND here because I wanted to make sure I was being fully nourished and not just keeping my calories low. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Calorie food and Food's carbon footprint
I'm really into nutrition and I always like to take a look at https://nutritiondata.self.com/ to know the number of fat/carb/proteins. I'm more and more aware that the food we eat also has an impact on the planet. Indeed, importing avocado to Europe has a big carbon footprint. Do you know if it exists a website/database where I could have a mix between nutritiondata.com and knowing the carbon footprint for each... Source: over 2 years ago
  • Thoughts On A Smoothie Every Day?
If you don't want to use the app https://nutritiondata.self.com/ can be used to make a recipe too. It's not as user friendly. Source: over 2 years ago
  • i have organic heavy cream.. it contains some omega 3s right
According to nutritiondata.self.com, 100g of heavy whipping cream has 538mg of omega-3 and 836mg of omega-6. This is about 7x more than whole milk (3.25% fat). Source: over 2 years ago
