Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about Mixxx and what they use it for.
  • The Art of DJing: Avalon Emerson
A few months on Hacker News there was a post about Mixxx[1], an open-source DJ software. It prompted me to download it and play around. It's very cool. Despite being a complete novice, I learned a few things after a dozen hours of playing around: * I don't have a physical controller, but I can understand why people always use them. Keyboard and mouse are not fully sufficient. * The built-in key and beat... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • DJ With Apple Music launches to enable subscribers to mix their own sets
Https://mixxx.org for a FOSS (read: somewhat enshittification proof) alternative. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Ask HN: Looking for a DJ Program
Mixxx is excellent and has pretty wide hardware support. FYI the "limited" functionality of Rekordbox can be hardware unlocked with some Pioneer controllers. https://mixxx.org/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • How to create a playlist of tracks in Ableton Live Lite?
There are quite a few DJs that use Ableton for DJing (or hybrid sets). Of course, Ableton wasn't made with DJing as its main function in mind but you totally can use it for that purpose and (with some tweaking) do everything and more that would be possible in a dedicated DJing software (like Traktor or Rekordbox or Mixxx). • Free software to try mixing?
Iโ€™ve used Mixxx a little bit and have been surprised how capable it is. Itโ€™s an open source project and is free to download: https://mixxx.org/. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Is getting a DDJ SX as a beginner a good idea? Post includes offers
Mixxx (you already mentioned this; it's certainly a great piece of free software to test the DJ waters with and works with a lot of gear). Source: about 3 years ago
  • Turntable and controller setup
Alternatively, you can also use Mixxx with the S4 MK2. Mixxx is free. But instead of a Traktor control vinyl record, you'd use Serato timecode instead, as stated in the docs. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Linux users?
If the device is class-compliant, i.e. It follows the generic USB spec and doesnโ€™t need drivers installed, it can work under Linux. However the free software you get with the controller (Serato, Rekordbox, Traktor etc.) wonโ€™t. The alternative is to use Mixxx. Itโ€™s free and open source. You can check their controller support. https://mixxx.org/. Source: about 3 years ago
  • HELP Can't decide should I take up DJing as a hobby?
If you don't like any of those, aren't you glad you didn't spend the money to find out the hard way? There's more DJ software than those two, so try out these as well: Traktor Pro 3, Virtual DJ, DJUCED, or Mixxx. Source: about 3 years ago
  • is Mixxx safe?
Yes, and it's very good. Just download it directly from mixxx.org so you don't get a third-party site giving you viruses or the like. Source: about 3 years ago
  • is Mixxx safe?
Found this free DJ software was wondering if it is safe? https://mixxx.org/. Source: about 3 years ago
  • questions regarding track transition (fades, cuts,sync...)
Virtual DJ is free to use with keyboard and mouse, and Mixxx is 100% free, even if you go further down this rabbithole and buy a DJ controller. Source: about 3 years ago

  • Question For All You DJ's
I use Mixxx which is free and can do auto-transistions. It's multiplatform so the operating system doesn't matter. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Beginner Advice
If you want to get started -today,- look into Mixxx and Traktor dj 2. Mixxx is free/open source, TDJ2 is a stripped down version of the full Traktor 3 and geared for beginners. Source: over 3 years ago
  • TRAKTOR beat grid old school tracks with varying tempo - help please
Most other DJ software has this feature, including the open source Mixxx. Source: over 3 years ago
  • how to dj?
Get Mixx https://mixxx.org/ Learn your way around it. Buy (or download) a bunch of music from as wide a variety of genres as you can. Top 40 from the 70s through current eras, stuff you enjoy listening to, and anything popular from Youtube you've heard in SL. Pay attention to music you hear other DJs playing often. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Is it possibly to play a dj set with solely ableton and a midi keyboard?
Had the same idea a few years ago and tbh instead just ended up using mixxx with a custom launchpad mapping, which you could probably translate to a midi keyboard. If you prepare your beat grids/bpms well you can get quite far with just having a play and a cue key, maybe some hotcues, and doing crossfades with the mouse lol. Source: over 3 years ago
