Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about LibraryThing and what they use it for.
  • That's a library and a half
I have 827 (thank you librarything.com for the catalogue) and 7 dictionaries in four languages accumulated over 50-odd years. I have several matching sets Iโ€™ve bought as they were issued. You just have to (a) buy books and (b) live a long time. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Keep track of books!
I use librarything.com to keep track of books I read. One of the things I like most about the site is that it basically works like your own personal library card catalog. You can create "collections" as well as tags to organize your books. You can easily add books by edition, format, or ISBN to your library. And if you have physical books, you can scan the barcodes to add them to your library instead of entering... Source: about 3 years ago
  • Library management system
Take a look at librarything.com, probably perfect for small libraries. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Blogsnark reads! January 8-14
i'll also put in a plug for librarything.com. I prefer it way more than goodreads. It feels less more indie and far smaller. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Book tracker where you can add notes
I believe you can make comments vs. Private comments on librarything.com. You can also set your entire library to private. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Resources to automate ISBN to LCCN or other identifiers?
Not sure if it is what you want, but LibraryThing is a tool for cataloging personal collections that provides LC class for the books you add. You could probably upload the data youโ€™ve already compiled to avoid scanning or entering ISBNs. Itโ€™s free and their privacy policy is much better than something like Goodreads. • For those of you with school aged children, just know that their classroom libraries will be disappearing soon
Similarly, in library school we had to catalog our personal collections and we used librarything.com - you can also scan in books via the app. Source: over 3 years ago

  • How do you organise your books?
i'm a librarian so I use librarything.com. Books that have been read, they get a call number and organized by date read. The ones that have NOT been read, they get organized by title. Source: almost 4 years ago
  • Unpopular opinion: I don't think that goodreads is a good place to search for book critics
Check out https://librarything.com. Itโ€™s been around awhile so not empty and thereโ€™s lots of features, most of which you can easily ignore to pick your way to use. Totally free now. Source: about 4 years ago
  • YSK How to make a personal or small library
The second great resource is a good library management software. We chose the free, web-based librarything.com, which has a tool called Tiny Cat that can easily manage book lending. You can add books automatically with a barcode scanner or by searching the title, so it doesn't take long to make a searchable online catalog of books. And if you hoard books like us and have to keep some of your less-accessed books in... Source: about 4 years ago
  • Amazon/Goodreads are, sadly, the best apps at choosing recommendations.
Try LibraryThing - it's like Goodreads but primarily for librarians and gives me much better recommendations and lists. librarything.com. Source: about 4 years ago
  • Too Many or Keep Going?
Please also consider creating a librarything.com account and put in all your collection, and add any new stuff as you happen to get it, and share a link to it so we can follow along and maybe buy our own copies of the gems you have there! Source: over 4 years ago
  • My bookshelf (1,772 books)
I keep track of them with the website librarything.com. Source: over 4 years ago
  • I regret getting rid of my books and cds
For the books, get one well made bookshelf/cupboard and try to get the books you want second hand. If the collection gets larger, then some books will have to go. This way, you keep a nice collection of books, but it doesn't grow out of hand. I even have considered to limit my collection to a top 100 of books I read and the ones that are on my to read list. I also try to keep track of all my books via... Source: over 4 years ago
