Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Kinda.
  1. Why should a person choose Kinda over its competitors?

If DeepL or Google Translate already give you the right tone, you don't need Kinda. Use Kinda when the default output is fluent but socially wrong: tú vs usted, tu vs vous, gendered first person, idioms that sound weird word-for-word. Also: no account, side panel next to what you're writing, privacy posture with no content scripts and no .

  2. What makes Kinda unique?

Most translators optimize for "correct sentence." Kinda optimizes for "would I actually send this to a landlord / friend / boss?" You set who you're talking to and how formal it should be, then it picks register, gender agreement, and idioms from that. Explain / Formal / Casual are built in so you can check the choice, not just trust a black box.

  3. Who are some of the biggest customers of Kinda?

    • Early individual users on the Chrome Web Store (just launched publicly)
    • No big company logos yet — still at the "people trying the free tier" stage
  4. How would you describe the primary audience of Kinda?

People who write across languages in real relationships: expats, couples, freelancers emailing clients, language learners who care about sounding polite. Not localization teams shipping app strings. Think "message to my Spanish landlord," not "translate this 40-page PDF."

  5. What's the story behind Kinda?

I live in Spain and kept getting translations that were grammatically fine and socially off. Built Kinda as a Chrome side panel so the context (who, how formal) sticks across messages. Solo founder product: Cloudflare Worker + Claude, free tier, Pro when you need more languages / volume.

  6. Which are the primary technologies used for building Kinda?

Chrome MV3 extension (TypeScript, Vite, side panel). Backend is a Cloudflare Worker at api.trykinda.com with KV rate limits. Translations via Anthropic Claude (Haiku). Payments via Stripe when Pro is used. No accounts; anonymous install ID only.
