  • I just cannot understand why they did Paint so bad
Paint.NET for a familiar paradigm with nicer features. Pinta for an old school, simple Paint experience. Krita for more advanced drawing. Gimp for editing/manipulating photos. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Had to make This after seeing all the post over and over again
If you don't want to pay for photoshop, check out the Gnu Image Manipulation Program at http://gimp.org which is free. It has most of what you'd want photoshop for. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Super, just Super.
As good as this suggestion is, without proper links and explanation it means nothing. GEGL is a type of plugins for GIMP, which can adjust the settings of already present effects and create new ones. The most notable ones are made by LinuxBeaver. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Useful apps for Ux designers
GIMP: FOSS alternative to Photoshop. Like Inkscape, it’s not directly related to UI, but might be handy. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Malicious ad post & download mirror
OS? On windows from gimp.org it's https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.10/windows/gimp-2.10.32-setup-1.exe. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Upgrading and plug-ins
In general, the installer from gimp.org does not remove any files it didn't install, so third-party plug-ins will be kept. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Dangerous Google Ad Disguising Itself as www.gimp.org
Another possibility here is that here's a compromised file on the gimp.org site that does a redirect. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Newbie Question- I have a school logo that is circular, but the file saves it as a square with white background. Is there a way I can "cut" the circular logo out so I can etch it on our Glowforge?
Does the Glowforge require a PNG or JPEG? If so, you may be better off with GIMP (gimp.org) and performing a color erasure (https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Changing_Background_Color_1/). Source: over 1 year ago
  • WIP: is the face proportion right for the body?
I use Deforum Stable Diffusion and edit on Gimp. Didn't get the results I was looking for with the "algos," ended up doing my usual thing (upscale, crop, tweak, img2img, graft it in). If I were to share the end result should I make another post? Or would that be considered spam (since I already posted the WIP once, even though it was for asking a question)? Source: over 1 year ago
  • ILPT Request : how can i get photoshop for free?
Of course, if you require the latest version of everything, then you need to do some other things, but I am sure that even the old CS2 edition is more than good enough for most of the Adobe users. Or download free Gimp. Source: over 1 year ago
  • The views in NMS never disappoint
He used ReShade (https://reshade.me), a post processing injector you can use with many games (I think Nvidia even has some built in features that are similar) and GIMP (https://gimp.org), probably the best free alternative to Photoshop since decades. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Since Adobe is trying to be like Netflix, What are some good (free) alternatives to the software?
Depending on the purpose, I'd name Gimp for a general photo editor, Photodiva for a portrait editor and Clipify for a video editor. Source: over 1 year ago

In a serious note, I don't believe that is possible. You might be able to look up how to import any font there, then just point to the Impact.ttf, if possible. GIMP is pretty easy to learn for dogelore posting. (Also it's free software, don't buy it on the Microsoft store, https://gimp.org) If you're on a Chromebook you're gonna need to find the Impact.ttf online because it's a Microsoft copyrighted font. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Export Gimp base fonts
GIMP does not come with any fonts of its own, at least not if you got it from gimp.org. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Software to open raw and calibrated PDS images (.img / .dat)?
Years ago I wrote my own PDS plugin for https://gimp.org, but that's not working anymore on current versions and was limited to 8 bit/channel. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I made a layperson's tutorial for getting raw JWST data yourself!
For those who don't like/want to use Python and prefer a standalone desktop application on Windows or macOS try FITS Liberator from https://noirlab.edu/public/products/fitsliberator and then load the exported TIF into https://gimp.org to despeckle it and further processing. • Show HN: Remove unwanted objects in photos simply by dragging boxes
Well, now you've made me look like an idiot with the original post. What 'computational resources' are needed here, a 2nd-gen GPU? I think this kind of object removal would be awesome if it were implemented as a Gimp plugin. Gimp allows scripting in Python, which seems to be what most DL projects are using these days: https://gimp.org/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Yet another whine about wine
Have you tried Gimp or Krita? Those are the most popular Linux apps that do the sort of thing you do with Corel Paintshop. Source: almost 2 years ago

I challenge you to five it a try. -- https://gimp.org/. Source: almost 2 years ago

We tested 4 photo editing alternatives to Photoshop
The GIMP project was started in 1995, around the same time as the Gay Dad project. It didn’t take long until the band found themselves on the front cover of esteemed music mag NME. GIMP, on the other hand, has probably been deployed less frequently on the cover of major magazine titles – as an open-source equivalent to Photoshop, it lacks the Adobe product’s power and slick interface. The project has matured over...
5 Powerful and FREE Photoshop Alternatives
GIMP is best for photo editing or manipulation. It is not the most suitable tool for painting. Compared to some of the other free best Photoshop alternatives listed here, GIMP requires some level of computer skills to use, and its interface is not as user-friendly as the other programs. In other words, beginners may find it a bit daunting to get into image editing with GIMP. But that is not to say it is less...

This app will come as a fresh breath of air for Linux users. There is very few best painting apps out there that are designed for Linux, and GIMP is one of them, probably the best one amongst the lot. The 7 Best Free Photoshop Alternatives
While not always as intuitive as Photoshop in terms of functionality and design, GIMP makes up for some of its perceived clumsiness with several in-depth tutorials for both beginning and advanced users that help you use the majority of its components with little or no pre-existing knowledge of the open-source application. With that said, if you're only looking for the very basics in a raster-based graphics editor...
12 Best Free Photoshop Alternatives You Should Try
Gimp has many issues. While you can make preset brushes, the brushes themselves to not have separate settings so you have to repeatedly load the formatting to each brush each time you swap. So say you are swapping to the eraser from the brush, has the same formatting as the brush. This is annoying and takes up a bit more time. I use Gimp to edit pictures I make on other alternatives. Gimp does give you the ability...
A free Photoshop alternative: No, it's not GIMP
Over the years I've tried apps such as Pixlr and Snapseed to edit photos. These are pretty good apps, but I didn't see them competing with Photoshop. Just about every free open source software advocate has urged me to try GIMP. And while GIMP definitely competes with Photoshop, I couldn't get used to it. On the other hand, Photopea competes with Photoshop and makes for an easy transition. And it's a web...
The 9 best alternatives to Photoshop
GIMP offers a wide toolset, similar to Photoshop in many ways, and is a great option if you're looking for a no-cost image editor. The interface differs somewhat from Photoshop, but a version of GIMP is available that mimics Adobe's look and feel, making it easier to migrate over if you're ditching Photoshop.
