  TL;DR: It doesn't matter that much for everyday use, just for problems, package manager, and release cycle. Nobody's situation is the same, but just as a word of advice, for a first distro, unless you're willing to learn a lot, you should probably stay away from Arch or Gentoo. While it is possible to manually configure + build a kernel, you miss out on vendor specific patches and it’s your responsibility to update your kernel.
