Basically, anything remotely stored if private should be encrypted. Through SSL when accessed the data is again encrypted and decrypted when received. Thus on all hops between the unencrypted data can not be attained. To keep google and carnivore out of the data while it is stored on files.google.com the data afore uploading AES encrypt.
