  • How Web3 Decentralization Can Dismantle Big Tech Monopolies in 2024
For example, decentralized data storage projects like Filecoin, Arweave, and Sia posted 50-100% user growth, providing blockchain-powered alternatives to AWS, Google Cloud, and Dropbox for distributed app data security. - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
  • I Moved My Blog from IPFS to a Server
Filecoin, which is based on IPFS, creates a market for unused storage. I think that idea is great but for adoption it needs to be as simple as Dropbox to store files. But visit [filecoin.io](https://filecoin.io/) and the dropbox-like app that you could be willing to try is nowhere to be found. So maybe it is an enterprise solution? That isn't spelled out either. So I am not surprised that this has little trackion... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago

  • If digital games were resellable
The data does not need to be stored on the blockchain. It can be stored on a p2p network like torrents. https://filecoin.io/ is one example that uses blockchain but does not store the data on the chain. The chain is for metadata. And people get paid in crypto to lend their storage essentially. But yeah as I said crypto has gotten a really bad start among people due to so many scammers and shitcoins. I still think... • Why isn't distributed/decentralized archiving currently used?
Filecoin (see https://filecoin.io/) is also sort of interesting in terms of ensuring redundancy, although it does use crypto for monetary incentive. As much as I'm opposed to adding crypto to where it doesn't belong, it does do a really good job at ensuring redundancy & very much minimizing the risk of data loss. Source: 11 months ago
  • Seriously unstoppable filesharing
This is the closest block chain to provide that. But great idea Https://filecoin.io/. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Can decentralized storage compete with traditional cloud? Analyzing the available decentralized storage options
When it comes to enterprise use, companies will typically prefer uptime, performance, and private data-sharing features for their storage as they look at AWS S3 alternatives when selecting a decentralized storage platform. Of all the platforms mentioned, ZĆ¼s fits the bill and enterprises still can use Filecoin for archive storage instead of AWS Glacier. Source: about 1 year ago
  • A Digial EU Activists Platform - What Should It Look Like?
Have a look at e.g. https://filecoin.io , they provide decentralized access to file storage where "mining" consists efficient and reliable proof that an amount of storage has been made available to users. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Would community-owned data centers help with the sovereignty of data?
The reality is that running the hardware yourself tends to be a bad business decision. Businesses are incentivized to only spend time/energy/money on things that are going to differentiate their product. Running your own storage layer is possible, but often more expensive or time consuming than just paying Amazon or Google. There has been a push in the world of Web3 (if you believe in that kind of thing) to build... Source: about 1 year ago
  • A TOKENIZED URL IS NOT A TOKENIZED ASSET
Filecoin: they also have the blockchain asset storage tech, though at the moment they seem to be targeting ā€œthe most important informationā€ which means they are probably not as scaled to store just any information Https://filecoin.io/. Source: over 1 year ago

  • Friendly backup tool for admins running their own servers
Https://crust.network or https://filecoin.io ? They have very cheap storage rates. Crust is easier to work with. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I wish I could "seed" a server like a torrent, has there been any work to make this possible?
Filecoin.io will be very useful for server backups, because storage prices are very low. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Apparently you cannot have Kanye interview on Google drive now

  • This may be the best DeFi you can participate in during a bear market
Now, we have completed the infrastructure of the project and have started operations. There are now 3 FIL mining pools pledged in Dbank. This represents a move towards our goal of providing yet another economic model innovation for DeFi development on Solana). Source: over 1 year ago
  • Enraged client wants all the files from the past 2 years
My long term goal is to integrate filecoin.io into workflow once they create easy to use windows client. I will upload finished project to filecoin, pay for 2 years of storage (its very cheap - will add it to my price), upload data, pass storage contract id information to client and he can retrieve / extend storage duration of filecoin storage deal. Client can also hire any 3rd party IT person for retrieving data. Source: over 1 year ago

  • Listen to recent pod guest Marc Andreessen sputter and struggle to come up with a single real world use for Web3 (ie, blockchain, crypto currency, decentralization, etc)
I'll grant you that the only "web3" use case I've seen that sorta makes sense is something like filecoin. It could improve upon the current world of illegal file sharing by better incentivizing seeding. Source: almost 2 years ago

Battle of decentralized storages: SiaCoin (SC) vs Storj (STORJ) vs Filecoin (FIL)
Filecoin is a coin that sits as the second layer of the IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) project, an open-source project designed to create a permanent, decentralized method of data storage and sharing. The network provides a decentralized hub on which people who have excess storage capacity can offer it to those in need of said capacity. Individuals and businesses pay to store data on storage providerā€™s...
