You can install google input tool's chrome extension, select malayalam language and assign a keyboard shortcut to activate it everytime you need it. There's also dictation.io, which is a nice speech to text tool I use quite often. Source: over 4 years ago
I've temporarily lost the use of my hand. So I am looking at alternative way to type, this was typed using speechnotes, but it is a pop-up that you have to copy and paste things out of, which is more clicking than I'd like. Same for dictation.io (which is also good). Win-H (Cortana) does what I want, but says 'listening' and half the time doesn't type anything and then deletes the input if you hesitate too long... Dictation.io stands out in the burgeoning field of transcription and voice-to-text technologies. Positioned among competitors such as Speechnotes, Willow Voice, Speech Recognition Anywhere, Dragon Speech, and Otter.ai, it faces a diverse landscape of alternatives for users seeking effective speech-to-text solutions. Here, we explore the prevailing sentiment and noteworthy highlights from recent discussions concerning Dictation.io.
Dictation.io is frequently highlighted as a viable tool for converting spoken words into text, showcasing particular strength in its multilingual support. This becomes a profound advantage for users seeking a broad spectrum of language options in dictation technology. As noted in discussions, this capability enables users to dictate in a variety of languages, which can be instrumental for both personal and professional applications.
The general sentiment around Dictation.io is positive, though with a spectrum of mixed feedback reflecting varied user experiences. On one hand, users have praised its ease of use and the convenience it offers for tasks such as blogging and note-taking. Its browser-based application is appreciated for the flexibility to transition between speaking, typing, and editing without significant interruption to workflow.
However, some limitations are also highlighted. Users who require dictation capabilities outside the browser context, such as in applications like Slack or Teams on Windows, find its browser-bound nature restricting. This limitation becomes more pronounced for those with physical impairments who rely heavily on minimal interaction processes. The need for seamless integration across different software platforms is a recurring theme in user feedback, signaling an area for potential enhancement.
Articles and user anecdotes frequently position Dictation.io as a "best bet" for those preferring voice dictation over traditional typing, suggesting contentment with its transcription accuracy and usability in language processing. Compared to competitors, Dictation.io maintains a competitive edge in terms of accessibility and straightforward user engagement, contributing to its reputation as an efficient tool for spoken word transcription.
Despite its many strengths, areas for improvement are evident. Users express a desire for greater integration with desktop applications beyond the browser scope, which would elevate its utility and appeal amongst users accustomed to system-wide integration in software tools.
In summary, Dictation.io's offering is well-suited to individuals seeking a reliable and easily accessible speech-to-text tool, particularly for multi-language use. While the functionality and ease of use are praised, the tool would benefit from addressing integration limitations to enhance its capacity across different platforms and user scenarios. This balance between strengths and areas for growth forms the foundation of current public opinion, influencing both existing and potential use cases for Dictation.io within the competitive landscape of digital transcription tools.
