  • Aggregate residential bill data in one place?
CozyCloud ? "Bills, online purchases, phone, electricity, bank statements, health reinbursments, pay slips... Gather all your data stored by third party services without effort!" (Selfhost doc). Source: about 4 years ago
  • Alternatives to nextcloud? Is this abandonware?
As far as alternatives go there is cozy cloud, which tbh I never tried, but it seems a lot more limited. Source: over 4 years ago
  • Is Drive the best GDrive alternative available?
I use Cozy Drive. It's open source. You can pick a folder in your pc, and it syncs it to the cloud. You can still open in offline. They have 5gb free version, which I use, because I need it only for documents and photos. Android app is good too, and you can automatically sync your photos. Source: almost 5 years ago
  • I need a Password Manager and don't know what to get.
However, it really depends on one needs and usage. For example, tags might be a more flexible way to organize the passwords than folders, I agree with that. Searching in Bitwarden is reasonably good, which makes folders or tags a lot less relevant. The limited number of item types is not limited for my use, as I rarely use Bitwarden for anything else than managing passwords. Autofill never bothered me, personally.... Source: almost 5 years ago
  • Whatโ€™s a good way of sharing resources at home (local net)
If you want more of a web-based file sharing solution, you can try out more professionally made open source file sharing services like Syncthing, YouTransfer, or Cozy. The advantage of web-based solutions is that you can use them with your smartphone as well, which is very convenient. Source: over 5 years ago
  • What are your reviews of Cozy Cloud?
I was looking for Google Drive alternatives and found Cozy Cloud. Source: over 5 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of Cozy

Cozy, a versatile platform offering services in property management, tenant screening, and cloud storage, has garnered a range of opinions across the tech community. Known primarily for its dual approach to cloud servicesโ€”self-hosted and hostedโ€”with options under a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) model, Cozy addresses both the personal and professional needs of its users.

Overview and Use Cases

Cozy is frequently compared to other prominent platforms such as Buildium, Yardi Voyager, and Rent Manager in property and rental management, while in the domain of cloud storage, it competes against well-known services such as Google Drive. Beyond its property management capabilities, Cozy Cloud stands out in the cloud storage segment with features that facilitate storing data, managing passwords, and syncing files across devices.

Public Reception

The feedback from users highlights Cozy's utility and versatility. For instance, its Linux GUI client has received positive mentions, suggesting a decent user experience for Linux users, an audience that often feels underserved in terms of dedicated application support. Its ability to aggregate various types of personal dataโ€”like bills, bank statements, and pay slipsโ€”adds a unique value proposition that isn't as prevalent among its competitors.

Strengths

Cozy's cloud storage capabilities have drawn attention, particularly among those seeking alternatives to mainstream solutions like Google Drive. Its open-source nature is a key selling point, with users appreciating the transparency and flexibility that comes with FOSS projects. This aligns Cozy with a community-driven development ideology, ensuring that the platform remains adaptable and up-to-date with user needs and technological advances.

Moreover, the platform's integration capabilities, such as syncing directories between local and cloud storage and supporting offline access, are highly valued. The 5GB free version of Cozy Drive is another plus, providing an enticing entry point for new users, especially those primarily concerned with document and photo storage.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Despite the strengths, Cozy Cloud is occasionally perceived as more limited when compared to expansive solutions like Nextcloud. For users familiar with the extensive functionalities offered by such platforms, Cozy might feel somewhat restricted. There are mentions of its comparative limitations in forums, suggesting that although it serves particular use cases effectively, it might not be a comprehensive solution for all cloud storage needs.

Conclusion

In summary, Cozy presents a compelling option that encompasses both property management functionalities and cloud storage services. Its uniqueness lies in the open-source model, with an emphasis on empowering users through both a hosted service and a self-hosted option. While it faces some criticism for potential limitations compared to larger ecosystems, its strengths in addressing specific user needs and offering a solid Linux client make it a respected choice within its niche. For those valuing openness and simplicity, particularly in cloud storage and personal data management, Cozy remains a noteworthy contender.
