To your excellent point, the next amazing app could be a social networking site specifically oriented around networking vouched-for people as potential housemates. Maye built on the bones of couchsurfing.com. That site is excellent and I used it in life-changing ways when I was younger to see the world and make friends all over it. If you're a bad-actor on that site you don't last long. Source: over 1 year ago
I was looking for place to couch surf and came acroos couchsurfing.com . Since I'm completely new to couch surfing, this seemed like a perfect website. Little did I know... There was a verification option - I thought it was to be automatically billed for any possible damage I could cause, but it turns out when I clicked it (It asked me to fill credit card details), I was automatically billed. There was no clear... Source: over 1 year ago

Heyall, I'm looking to plan a trip to Paris and couchsurf, but I'm new to this whole concept, and I considered signing up for couchsurfing.com, but when I looked at the site reviews online, apparently its gone downhill as of not so long ago. Anyone else know of any sites I could use to find hosts? Source: almost 2 years ago
Check out random bar wednesday meetups listed on the couchsurfing.com website. You can also find it advertised on facebook too or sometimes on the couchsurfing whatsapp https://chat.whatsapp.com/Dbdx63plMdHKnWUqXwbErJ. Source: almost 2 years ago
Not specifically activity related, but what I always do when I travel is consult sites like Meetup.com and couchsurfing.com to connect with locals where I'm traveling. Source: almost 2 years ago
When I went, I used couchsurfing.com. They have since become a paid site, but it's pretty inexpensive ($2 a month USD I think). Some cities have great, very active forums (or did about 15 years ago -- the paid site thing could have decreased the numbers in these places). Source: almost 2 years ago
There's also couchsurfing.com where people will let you crash on their couch for a little while. Usually a week or so. It's pretty cool because you get to just chill and then usually the host wants to take you out to do some cool things. I would use couch surfing whenever I went to big cities and was always able to find a place to stay if I spent 3 or 4 hours messaging people on the website. Source: almost 2 years ago
Surfing couches has always been and will forevermore remain FREE. The culture of couchsurfing will vastly outlive the grift that couchsurfing.com has become. Our community has built it's own technology solutions with the vow of always remaining free. Because ultimately couchsurfing.com has introduced the toxicity of commercial transaction to what was once a purely humanitarian endevour. Source: almost 2 years ago

Hi, my family has recently discovered that our tenant in our apartment has been secretly offering couch surfing for the past year and a half without notifying us. It is a breach of contract for them to offer sleeping arrangements for outsiders, except for close family. They have reviews from over 35 people. For now we are not planning to cancel the contract, we just forbid any further couch surfing. I would just... Source: about 2 years ago

Storage facilities sometimes have on-site apartments or a backroom that allows a manager or other employee to live there. It is for convenience and security of facilities. An idea is to find a job at a storage facility and ask about employee benefits that include an on-site apartment/room. Finding more permanent accommodation may be found via rooms for rent at roomster.com, hotpads.com, and spareroom.com.... Source: about 2 years ago
I hope so, I've never done anything Wwoofing related but used to use couchsurfing.com, and had some great (sometimes weird) experiences through there. Source: about 2 years ago
I travel alone all the time, and if I want company, I've used my FB travel groups; couchsurfing.com events page; meetup.com - whichever social media you so choose. Or sit at a bar and strike up a conversation with someone there. Sometimes I want to be alone just sightseeing and wandering; sometimes I want a dinner companion. I've met some wonderful people; I've also had a blast on my own. Source: about 2 years ago

Couchsurfing.com is not sketchy! The community is still very much alive, and if you read people's profiles and reviews you can get a good sense of who someone is. You should message a few folks on the site and see if it works out for you! Source: about 2 years ago
Id recommend you to check couchsurfing.com, thats probably your best bet. Source: about 2 years ago
A lot of that can still be found in people who used to use couchsurfing.com, people who are part of intentional communities, and in a lot of the spiritual new age community. Sometimes you can find it through airbnb's because the people who are willing to share a space with a stranger are also a little hippy-ish. Source: about 2 years ago
Even hostels are expensive. Pick 5-6 anchor cities where you will spend a month each and rent a room in a place in those cities with roommates for a month. This can be really cheap, 1/3 to 1/4 the price of a hostel. Alternatively try couchsurfing.com and it could be even cheaper but maybe more dangerous, not sure about that. Source: about 2 years ago
