I am thinking of leaving everything and everyone when I turn 18.

Workaway Couchsurfing
  1. Immerse yourself in local culture and community. Learn, teach, volunteer, help stay and share skills. Get off the tourist trail. Contact tens of thousands of local hosts worldwide.
I highly recommend checking out wwoof.net, helpx.net and workaway.info. They are websites where you can get volunteer gigs while traveling that will exchange free food and lodging for 3-4 hours of work per day. Usually the people that take part in these programs are pretty awesome. I always made friends and it's one of my favorite things to do while traveling. Some of the best experiences I've ever had where at volunteer gigs. One of them I stayed at for 6 months because I was having such a good time there.

  2. CouchSurfing is your ticket to explore the world -- from the road or from your own home.
There's also couchsurfing.com where people will let you crash on their couch for a little while. Usually a week or so. It's pretty cool because you get to just chill and then usually the host wants to take you out to do some cool things. I would use couch surfing whenever I went to big cities and was always able to find a place to stay if I spent 3 or 4 hours messaging people on the website.
