This feels close to "felony contempt of business model". https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/06/felony-contempt-business-model-lexmarks-anti-competitive-legacy We are supportive of 3rd party ink cartridges, and there's little concern for the business model of the printer manufacturers. We instead care about the rights of the folks using the printers. With Postgres, no one bats an eye that there are thousands of... - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
Not quite there yet but Yunohost is a fantastic attempt to get closer to this ideal. Install the OS - and the basic self-hostic-use-case apps are all just there to click and install. From Immich to Kodi to Wordpress and what not. https://yunohost.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago

Yunohost isn't really meant for shared hosting but you can have multiple "apps" on a single box and it doesn't use docker. I'm not super familiar with it, but I think what you describe was/is the goal of Sandstorm (https://sandstorm.io/). Then there are also efforts like YunoHost (https://yunohost.org/) which are kind of like that, gives SSO auth and everything out of the box for all the apps it supports.... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Thanks, will take a look at that curl thing. We are still using this and been working for us for ~15 years (python 2, ported to python 3) and this is just an example of how to take https://fabfile.org to the extreme but still is not the best way to do it. We only ~50 servers so it is not a massive fleet. The convenience of typing `fab ` to do things under control is still better than nothing :). - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
I've used Rake and Fabric for somewhat similar (but less ambitious) stuff in the past and I'm thinking that Fabric might be a pretty good fit for this task as well, but I'd still like your input. Are there other tools I should look into? I've heard goodthings about Puppet but just looking at their site (it contains the word Enterprise ) gives me the feeling that it might be overkill for a one man operation. Source: over 4 years ago
