  • RPi 4 Build Recommendations (NAS/VPN/Seedbox/etc)
If you want something like that, then CasaOS is pretty great and I can recommend it, especially for a beginner. There is also Cosmos and Tipi. Yunuhost too but a bit different approach. Oh and Umbrel is a thing... Source: 10 months ago
  • The latest umbrelOS release brings a redesigned app store for self-hosted apps
However you quickly reach the limits of what Umbrel can do, its very basic in its abilities. Of course it depends all on what you (or anyone else) wants to do with it. There is also CasaOS which is very similar to Umbrel but last I compared, Casa offered a bit more features like for example adding your own docker projects easily. There is also Tipi which I must admit I havent taken a closer look at yet. And there... Source: 10 months ago
  • Sandstorm: Open-source platform for self-hosting web app
This looks exciting and definitely something to look out for as an option fkr self-hosting. Similiar and a little bit more mature is also YunoHost, https://yunohost.org/, or for professional environments, UCS https://www.univention.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Need simple tutorial for getting remote-access nextcloud setup with HTTPS
I use https://yunohost.org on my Pi, mostly for monitoring other stuff but you can get Nextcloud running just fine with it! Source: almost 1 year ago

  • Self host something like Neverinstall?
Https://yunohost.org could be an alternative to neverinstall. I see already umbrel is mentioned in comments. Source: about 1 year ago

  • Self-hosting in 2023: Nextcloud on Linode, or _?_ on _?_?
On the other end of the spectrum you have communists running Data Centers out of their basement. $ *I suggest Linode.* Super reliable provider, much less price than the big names. I would expect the same service out of DigitalOcean, Vultr... Just pick the company where you like the owners honestly. Linode's the one me teacher used tho. Assuming you got the income, $40/mo for 8GB should be good enough to run a... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Self-hosting in 2023: Nextcloud on Linode, or _?_ on _?_?
    > The experience needs to be more like installing an app on a phone or a game on a console and with automated backups and easy restore. Self hosting will never come back if we are still expecting people to manage servers like it’s 1985. It exists: https://yunohost.org/#/. Install the distro, and then it's all clickety-clicks for all your apps (which are softwares like nextcloud, cryptpad, bitwarden, bitter, etc..). - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Suggestion for new folks: install nextcloud with yunohost. yunohost helps a great deal with some installation headaches and has other apps that play nice with nextcloud
In my opinion as a non-tech person yunohost is far simpler and more flexible then other deployment options that I've seen (except for maybe paying somone or using shared hosting). Source: over 1 year ago
  • Easy self-hosting solution: YUNOhost
There are guides and documentation on their website at yunohost.org but if you would like my perspective as a new user and non-nerd please feel free to ask any questions. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Just starting my self hosted journey! What control panels exist?
For Docker, Tipi, CasaOS and YunoHost. There's also Umbrel if you are more interested in crypto apps. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Setting up a mail server for my clients
Thankfully, there are (still) alternatives. I ran instances of yunohost for non profit organizations and small private companies as well and it works great. It's a SMTP/IMAP stack built on debian, with tons of add-ons like vcal/vcard, rspamd, webmail, etc. It has a nice web interface, auto-updates and very importantly for the non wealthy orgs, it's free and open source. • Looking for a self host newb friendly solution.
Yunohost has vaultwarden and nextcloud. I used it as my first entry into self-hosting on a raspberry pi 4 too. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Simple centralized user management solution for self hosted applications for families?
You can look at Yunohost. Pretty well integrated hosting platform with many applications to install, and a single account for most of them. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Carbon Footprint of Unwanted Data-Use by Smartphones
I am using https://yunohost.org, but https://pibox.io/ looks like a cool setup that takes care of some of the more difficult things such as tunneling and backups. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
