What is Wordplay?

Wordplay delivers one cryptic crossword clue every morning โ€” designed for your phone, not a newspaper grid.

Cryptic crosswords are brilliant puzzles, but the experience has been stuck in the past: cluttered layouts, no mobile support, zero onboarding for beginners. Wordplay rebuilds the experience from scratch.

How It Works

  • One clue per day โ€” solve it in a minute, or take twenty. No overwhelm.
  • Progressive hints โ€” three levels that teach you how cryptics work, not just the answer
  • Detailed explanations โ€” after solving, see the definition, wordplay, and logic breakdown
  • Streaks & achievements โ€” build a daily habit with milestones at 7, 30, and 100 days

Key Features

  • Mobile-first design with daily color themes
  • 1000+ puzzles in the archive
  • Offline-first โ€” works without internet
  • Perfect for beginners and experts alike
  • Shareable result cards (think Wordle, but harder)
  • Completely free โ€” no ads, no accounts, no subscriptions

Who Is It For?

Whether you're a seasoned cryptic solver looking for a quick daily fix, or a complete beginner curious about cryptic clues โ€” Wordplay meets you where you are.

SuperCoder features and specs

  • Automated Coding Assistance
SuperCoder leverages AI agent capabilities to automate coding tasks, potentially speeding up development workflows by handling repetitive or boilerplate coding work.
  • Built on SuperAGI Framework
As an agent template within the SuperAGI ecosystem, it benefits from the underlying framework's infrastructure, tooling, and community support for autonomous agents.
  • Customizable Template
Being a template, it provides a starting point that developers can adapt and configure for their specific coding project needs rather than building an agent from scratch.
  • Open Source Nature
SuperAGI and its agent templates are typically open source, allowing developers to inspect, modify, and extend the code to fit their specific use cases without vendor lock-in.
  • Integration Potential
Being part of a broader agent ecosystem, SuperCoder can potentially integrate with other tools, APIs, and agents within the SuperAGI platform for more complex automated workflows.

Possible disadvantages of SuperCoder

  • Learning Curve
Users unfamiliar with the SuperAGI framework or agent-based architectures may face a steep learning curve to effectively configure and use SuperCoder for their projects.
  • Limited Documentation
As a relatively newer or niche tool, documentation and community resources may be less mature compared to more established coding assistants, making troubleshooting harder.
  • Dependency on SuperAGI Ecosystem
Being tied to the SuperAGI platform means users must adopt or work within that ecosystem, which could be a constraint if they prefer standalone tools.
  • Potential Reliability Issues
AI coding agents can sometimes produce inconsistent or incorrect code suggestions, requiring careful human review and validation before deployment.
  • Setup Complexity
Configuring an autonomous coding agent template may require more technical setup (API keys, environment configuration, model access) compared to simpler code completion tools.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Wordplay and SuperCoder.

What makes your product unique?

Wordplay's answer

Wordplay is the only cryptic crossword app built mobile-first from the ground up. Instead of adapting a newspaper-style grid for small screens, every interaction is designed for your phone. One clue per day keeps it focused and habit-forming, while progressive hints let beginners learn without feeling stuck. No ads, no accounts, no subscriptions โ€” just a beautifully crafted puzzle every morning.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Wordplay's answer

Most cryptic crossword apps are ports of newspaper puzzles โ€” they weren't designed for phones. Wordplay is different:

  • Mobile-first design: The interface is built for thumbs, not mice
  • Beginner-friendly: Progressive hints explain the wordplay logic step by step, so you actually learn
  • No friction: No account required, no ads, no paywall โ€” open the app and solve
  • Daily ritual: One clue per day creates a satisfying daily habit without overwhelm
  • Archive: 1000+ past puzzles available to practice anytime

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Wordplay's answer

Wordplay serves two overlapping groups:

  • Cryptic crossword beginners: People curious about cryptics but put off by their complexity. Wordplay's one-clue format and progressive hints make it the perfect entry point.
  • Commuters and daily puzzlers: People who enjoy Wordle, the NYT Mini, or similar daily micro-puzzles and want something with more intellectual depth. Typically 25โ€“45 years old, mobile-first, looking for a mindful 5-minute brain workout.

What's the story behind your product?

Wordplay's answer

Wordplay was built by Nim, an indie developer who got hooked on cryptic crosswords but couldn't find a good mobile app for them. Every existing option felt like a newspaper puzzle forced onto a phone screen โ€” tiny grids, complex interfaces, no hand-holding for beginners.

The idea: strip it down to one clue a day, build the UI from scratch for mobile, and add progressive hints so anyone could learn the craft of cryptics. Launched in early 2026, Wordplay is completely free with no ads or accounts.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Wordplay's answer

Wordplay is built with React Native via Expo, written in TypeScript. The UI uses NativeWind (Tailwind CSS for React Native). It ships to both iOS and Android through the Expo build system (EAS Build).

The puzzle engine โ€” clue validation, enumeration, and hint logic โ€” runs entirely on-device with no server dependency.

The backend for the archive and daily clue distribution is minimal: a static dataset served via the app bundle, with no accounts or authentication required.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Wordplay's answer

Wordplay is a free consumer app used by individual puzzle enthusiasts โ€” not enterprise customers. Our users are everyday people who enjoy word games: commuters, language lovers, and crossword fans looking for a satisfying daily brain workout.
