Socratic App is an AI homework helper that guides students with step-by-step explanations across math, science, and more. Upload a question or describe the problem to get clear reasoning, not just the final answer. Itโs built to help you learn faster, study smarter, and feel confident before tests.
Step-by-step explanations: See the full reasoning process so you understand why an answer is correct, not just what it is.
Photo + text questions: Snap a problem or type it in, then get an explanation you can follow.
Socratic guidance mode: Get hints and prompts that help you think through the next step instead of giving you a dead-end solution.
Multi-subject support: Works across common school subjects like math and science (and more as you use it).
Follow-up questions: Ask โwhy?โ or โshow me another wayโ to deepen understanding and practice.
Learn, donโt just copy: Understand concepts with clear steps so you can solve similar problems on your own.
Save time on homework: Get unstuck quickly and finish assignments faster with less frustration.
Study with confidence: Turn confusing questions into a repeatable method you can use on tests.
Better retention: Explanations + follow-ups help knowledge stick compared to just seeing answers.

Socratic App's answer:
I started Socratic App because I saw many students struggling with their homework. They often got the right answers but did not understand how to solve the problems. I wanted to build a tool that acts like a patient tutor for everyone. Our goal was to create an app that explains the logic behind every step. Now students can learn better and feel more confident in school.

The step up from there is an editor with a built-in agent like Cursor, Google Antigravity, Windsurf, or VS Code with a coding extension. These are code editors with an AI agent living inside them, and the difference is the responsible party for getting things from place to place. Instead of the software creator shuttling code between windows, the AI agent edits the project files directly and runs the GitHub and... - Source: dev.to / 9 days ago
For IDE-heavy teams, BYOK (bring your own key) can be interesting, no matter whether you live in WebStorm or VS Code. On the JetBrains side, the JetBrains AI plans and Junie BYOK docs allow it, and most VS Code AI extensions offer the same idea: keep the IDE, connect provider keys, pay the provider. - Source: dev.to / 30 days ago
Option 1: Raw editing in IDE. You open the .md file in VS Code or whatever you use. Syntax highlighting shows you the structure. Maybe you toggle a preview pane. This works for quick edits but becomes painful for anything involving tables, diagrams, or complex formatting. - Source: dev.to / about 1 month ago
You'll need Python 3.8+ and pip for the quickstart, with venv recommended for isolation. Install the requests library for HTTP calls. VS Code with the Python extension works well as an editor, though PyCharm or Sublime Text work equally well. You'll also need a free Foxit developer account. - Source: dev.to / about 1 month ago
For viewing and navigating, Obsidian handles large markdown libraries well: graph view, tag search, template plugins. VSCode works too if you'd rather stay in your dev environment. Both read the same folder with no conversion needed. - Source: dev.to / about 2 months ago
