Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

Vim 6 features
Stillindexed 17 features
  • Efficiency
Once learned, Vim can significantly speed up text editing with its modal editing, keyboard shortcuts, and commands that allow for quick navigation and manipulation of text.
  • Lightweight
Vim is a very lightweight editor, consuming minimal system resources, making it highly performant even on systems with lower specifications.
  • Customizability
Vim is highly configurable and extensible through plugins and user-defined settings, allowing users to tailor the editor to their specific needs.
  • Ubiquity
Vim is available on almost every Unix-like system and even on Windows, making it a ubiquitous tool that you can rely on being available in most environments.
  • Support for Multiple Programming Languages
Vim supports a wide range of programming languages out of the box and offers syntax highlighting, which can be enhanced through plugins.
  • Powerful Search and Replace
Vim offers robust searching and replacing functionalities, including support for regular expressions, which can be a powerful tool for developers.

Possible disadvantages

  • Steep Learning Curve
Vim's modal editing and extensive set of commands can be daunting for new users, requiring significant time and effort to master.
  • Minimal Default Config
The default configuration of Vim is quite minimalistic, which may necessitate additional setup and customization to meet modern development needs.
  • Limited GUI
Vim primarily operates in a terminal, and while there are graphical variants like GVim, they are not as feature-rich or user-friendly as modern GUI editors.
  • Plugin Management
While Vim is highly extensible, managing and configuring plugins can be cumbersome compared to more modern editors that offer integrated plugin management.
  • Inconsistent Behavior Across Platforms
There may be inconsistencies in behavior or available features of Vim across different operating systems, which can complicate its use in certain environments.
  • Lack of Integrated Modern Features
Vim lacks some modern IDE features like integrated debugging, advanced code introspection, and refined autocompletion, which often require third-party plugins to achieve.
  • Indexability monitoring
Meta robots, X-Robots-Tag header and robots. txt evaluated per URL, so a noindex is caught whether it is in the HTML or a response header.
  • 15 or 30 minute check cadence per monitored URL (Agency / Starter)
Site-level checks (robots.txt, sitemap, TLS) daily; domain expiry weekly.
  • Canonical and redirect monitoring
Canonical target, HTTP status, and the full redirect chain, hop by hop.
  • Sitemap health
Reachable, valid XML, URL count; sitemap index expansion.
  • Certificate Warnings
SSL certificate and domain expiry warnings via TLS and RDAP.
  • False-positive suppression
Critical change is confirmed by a second fetch before it alerts; flapping is held back.
  • Alerts by Telegram, Email and Slack
Stating what changed, where, when, and the before/after. One incident, one alert, one resolved notice.
  • Weekly report per site
Weekly "we watched, nothing broke" report per site; white-label on Agency so it can be forwarded to a client unedited.
  • Coverage shown
Checks attempted vs pages actually loaded, per site, per week.
  • No site access needed
Public URLs only. No Google account, no snippet, no credentials.
  • Bulk URL import
Paste the list your audit produced; every line gets a decision, nothing is dropped silently.
  • Published crawler identity
Fixed user agent and allowlisting guide at /bot.
  • Public canary
A page that breaks itself every four hours and a live log of every check and alert, with measured detection latency.
  • Free checkers
Indexability, X-Robots-Tag, robots. txt, canonical, redirects, sitemap, title/meta, H1, SSL and domain expiry, bulk (20 URLs), crawler-vs-browser diff.
  • MCP server
The same checkers callable from Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client, no key.
  • SEO skill generator
SKILL.md for any host with its expected state, platform traps and a re-check runbook.
  • Migration Watch (Agency)
14-day window with 5-minute cadence and a daily digest around a site migration.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Vim and Stillindexed.

What makes your product unique?

Stillindexed's answer:

It publishes its own evidence instead of adjectives. A public canary page breaks itself on a fixed schedule every four hours, and the log at api.stillindexed.com/canary/log shows every check and alert with the measured detection latency (median 16 minutes to detect, 18 to alert, on the slower plan). The crawler's identity and limits are published at /bot. Every check reads what the server actually returned, meta robots, X-Robots-Tag headers, robots.txt, canonicals, redirect chains, so a noindex in a response header is caught, not just one in the HTML. Pricing is public, there is no sales call, and no site access is required.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Stillindexed's answer:

Because it interprets a URL's indexability automatically at a self-serve price. Generic change monitors (Visualping, Hexowatch, changedetection.io) diff whatever selector you configure and leave you to decide what the change means. Audit suites (Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Ahrefs, Semrush) crawl on a schedule you read later. The SEO-aware monitors that do interpret changes start at $199 a month (SEORadar) or hide pricing behind a sales process (Conductor Monitoring). Stillindexed checks every 15 or 30 minutes, confirms a critical change with a second fetch before alerting, sends the before/after to Telegram and email, and starts at $39 a month for 15 sites. When Little Warden or Oh Dear fits better, the comparison pages on the site say so.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Stillindexed's answer:

Freelance technical SEO consultants and agencies of two to ten people who manage 5 to 50 client sites on retainer, especially around site migrations. Their problem is finding out about a broken noindex, robots.txt or canonical from the client three days late. It is not built for enterprises, in-house teams at large companies, or developers who want uptime or cron monitoring.

What's the story behind your product?

Stillindexed's answer:

An accidental noindex or robots.txt block typically sits live for 24 to 72 hours before anyone notices. Search Console reports it after the indexing damage, and its reports are often days behind. Recovery takes one to three weeks after the fix, and for an agency the cost is the client relationship. Existing tools were either enterprise crawlers with sales-led pricing, or generic page-diff monitors with no SEO semantics. Stillindexed was built as the narrow thing in between: plain HTTP fetches of the directives Google's indexing decision trusts first, on a short cycle, with an alert that names the change. It was built by one person and is designed to stay maintainable by one person, which is why it does one job and publishes its own proof.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Stillindexed's answer:

Go (stdlib net/http) for the API and the checker worker, PostgreSQL 17 with River for job scheduling, Astro for the marketing site, Vite and React with TypeScript for the app, plain CSS, Docker Compose behind Traefik, Polar for billing, Telegram and email for alerts.

  • regular Vim has lua?!
Lua is quite small, encouraging distros to include it. The ubuntu gvim has, and the gvim AppImage linked from vim.org does. The default Makefile from github is set up to not include it, but you can uncomment one line there to get it. Source: over 3 years ago
