Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Vidleaf and Summarize.tech.

What makes your product unique?

Vidleaf's answer

Vidleaf focuses on finding and reusing the exact words in a video. Search YouTube or Bilibili transcripts, jump to the original timestamp, and export only the passages you select as TXT, SRT or Markdown with timestamps and source links. Chinese-English translation can keep the original and translated text together for bilingual notes. Existing captions are used first, while AI summaries and audio transcription remain optional.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Vidleaf's answer

Choose Vidleaf when you need source-linked quotes for notes, research or writing. Its workflow connects transcript search, checking the original moment, selecting complete passages and exporting them with timestamps. It works in a web browser without installing an extension, supports YouTube and Bilibili, and lets guests try available-caption reading without signing up. Free accounts include weekly transcription and AI allowances; optional one-time purchases start at US$1.99 with no subscription.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Vidleaf's answer

Vidleaf is designed for students and self-directed learners taking lecture notes, researchers and writers collecting interview or podcast quotes, and Chinese-English learners making bilingual study notes. It is useful when you need to return to a specific statement in a long video and keep its original context and timestamp.

What's the story behind your product?

Vidleaf's answer

Vidleaf is built by a solo maker around a common problem: remembering an idea from a long video but needing the exact wording and a source for your notes. The product brings transcript reading, phrase search, timestamp checking and selected-quote export into one workflow. Summaries, Chinese-English translation and audio transcription support that workflow when needed, while the original video remains available for checking the passage.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Vidleaf's answer

Vidleaf is a browser-based application with a Python and FastAPI backend. Redis and arq handle background work, while PostgreSQL and SQLAlchemy support persistent data. The user interface is built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
