Ask any frontend developer who has tried to ship a 3D model on a website and they will describe the same arc: excitement, then friction, then a compromise that ends in a static screenshot. The results are predictable. Interactive 3D stays in the hands of studios and e-commerce platforms that can absorb the overhead. Everyone else settles for a flat image, a screen recording, or a link to Sketchfab.
This is the gap Vectreal was built to close.
Vectreal is an open platform for preparing, managing, and publishing 3D content for the web.
It combines a browser-based Publisher โ where you can upload, optimize, and configure a scene without writing a line of code โ with a set of open-source packages that give developers direct access to the same pipeline inside their own applications.
The value proposition, stated plainly: accessible and scalable 3D web visualization and publishing, for everyone.
That word everyone carries real weight here. Vectreal is not aimed at studios with dedicated 3D pipelines. It is designed for:
The idea behind Vectreal was to build the vehicle: a complete, open workflow from file upload to embeddable iframe, maintained as a public good, backed by a community that can extend and improve it over time.
The monorepo is live on GitHub. The packages are published to npm. The Publisher is running at vectreal.com/publisher. The invitation to contribute is genuine - Join us!
