I also find the app Trekarta very useful because you can find shelter, drinking water fountains, and picnic areas markes on the map. It works offline, you just have download the maps first. Both these tools are amazing in their own right; however, I want to learn how these processes operate on a much lower level. It's not as monolithic as you'd think. There are lots of engines out there but their communities aren't very vocal compared to Unity, Unreal, and especially Godot's community.
