What's the story behind your product?

TranscribeBee started from a small frustration: needing a handful of recordings transcribed, and finding that every decent tool wanted a monthly plan for it. Paying $10-15 a month for something used a few times a year made no sense, and neither did credits that expire before you get around to using them. So TranscribeBee was built the other way around — no plans, no seats, no expiring balance. Upload a file, see the price, pay $2 per audio hour, get a transcript with speaker labels. It's run as a small independent product, which is exactly why the pricing can stay this simple.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Transcription runs on OpenAI's Whisper model, which is what gives the 90+ language coverage and automatic language detection. The application is TypeScript end to end: Next.js (App Router) on the front, PostgreSQL with Drizzle ORM behind it, Better Auth for authentication, S3-compatible object storage for uploads, and TailwindCSS with Radix UI for the interface. Payments go through Creem. Deployed on Vercel.

Almost every transcription tool wants a monthly subscription — you pay whether you recorded anything that month or not. TranscribeBee doesn't. It's $2 per audio hour, billed by the minute, with a $2 minimum per file. No seats, no plan to cancel, no credits that expire. You see the exact price before you pay, and if a transcription fails on our end you're refunded automatically. Speaker labels and timestamps come standard on every transcript — not as a paid upgrade.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Cost, mostly. Transcribe two hours a month and TranscribeBee runs about $48 a year. Otter Pro is roughly $100, TurboScribe Unlimited roughly $120, and human transcription services like Rev would run into the thousands. In a month where you record nothing, TranscribeBee costs $0 — a subscription still bills you.

Beyond price: 90+ languages at the same rate with no premium for non-English audio, speaker labels and timestamps included, exports to TXT, SRT, VTT, DOCX and PDF, and source files deleted automatically after processing. Nothing to install, no onboarding call — upload a file and you have a transcript in minutes.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Occasional and project-based transcribers — the people a subscription doesn't fit. Researchers coding qualitative interviews, journalists pulling quotes from recordings, podcasters turning episodes into show notes and subtitles, students working through lecture recordings, and freelancers or small teams handling meeting recordings and voice memos. The common thread is bursty volume: a heavy month during fieldwork or a launch, then nothing for a while. They also tend to care about confidentiality, which is why uploaded files are deleted once processing finishes.
