How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

The Desk's answer

Independent artist managers, boutique booking agencies and self-booking artists and bands, typically one to ten people handling twenty to three hundred dates a year. The people using it are the owner manager, the agent who quotes and negotiates, a marketing person running the mailing list and shop, the artist checking the diary, and often a bookkeeper with read only access. It fits anyone who sells time by the date rather than by the hour, so photographers, DJs, speakers and celebrants use it the same way.

What makes your product unique?

The Desk's answer

It was built to run a real artist roster for two years before it was ever sold, so it follows how a booking actually happens rather than how a CRM thinks. An enquiry arrives, you quote from your rate card, they accept, the date is held, the contract is signed on the same link, you play, you invoice. Every stage asks for the one or two things it needs and nothing else, and nothing is retyped from one screen to the next.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

One price of £39.99 a month including VAT covers the whole product and everyone on your team, so growing the team does not grow the bill. Everything your clients see carries your name, logo, colours and bank details, and they are paid to you directly because no money passes through us. There is no roadmap section on our website, because we only sell what we already use every day.

What's the story behind your product?

The Desk's answer

Emberlight Artists is a London artist management company. We needed somewhere to keep the enquiries, quotes, contracts and invoices for our own roster, tried the usual mix of spreadsheets and inbox folders, and eventually built the thing we wanted. After two years of running the diary on it, other managers asked whether they could use it, so we licensed it from Soundcheck Software and made it available. When something breaks, it breaks for us too.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

The Desk's answer

A server rendered PHP application running in any modern browser, with no installation and nothing for the subscriber to keep updated. Each subscriber's data sits in its own store, unreachable from the web and served only through private links. Subscriptions are billed through the Revolut Merchant API, and subscribers take their own shop payments through their own Stripe, PayPal or SumUp account.
