For developers, screen sharing shouldnโ€™t be optimized for low bandwidth or presenting some slides. It should be high definition, that you still can read the tiny font of your colleague. No more, โ€œwait a minute, the stream isnโ€™t updatingโ€.

TabConnect is a browser extension for sharing a single live browser tab instead of your entire screen or desktop. The host starts a share from the browser toolbar in one click and hands over a short password or a direct viewer link. Viewers open the viewer page in any modern browser on desktop or mobile, with no account, extension or desktop client required on their side.

During a session the host can switch which tab is shared, freeze the viewer image, lock the room, remove individual viewers, apply viewer limits, and decide per share which extras are available: laser pointer, room chat, file sharing up to 25 MB, and host-approved remote control. Webcam and microphone can be shared alongside the tab. Viewers watch in high resolution with fullscreen, zoom and pan, and both sides get a categorized diagnostics event log for troubleshooting.

Sessions run over WebRTC with relay and SFU fallback, so they keep working on locked-down corporate networks. Typical uses are customer support walkthroughs, sales and onboarding demos, and internal design or QA reviews where the tab itself is the work.

TabConnect is free and available for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing TabConnect and screego.

What makes your product unique?

TabConnect's answer

TabConnect shares exactly one browser tab rather than a window, a display or your whole desktop, so nothing outside that tab is ever visible to viewers. Viewers need nothing installed: they open a web viewer page and enter a short session password or follow a direct link, on desktop or mobile. The host keeps granular control throughout, switching the shared tab, freezing the image, locking the room, removing viewers, and deciding per session whether chat, file sharing, laser pointer and remote control are available.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

TabConnect's answer

It is free, it installs in two clicks for the host, and it asks nothing at all of the viewer - no account, no extension, no desktop client. Compared with full meeting or remote desktop suites it stays deliberately narrow: one tab, a short code or link, and a small set of session controls. Sessions run over WebRTC with relay and SFU fallback, so they still connect on locked-down corporate networks where peer-to-peer alone would fail, and viewers can join from a phone or tablet as easily as from a laptop.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

TabConnect's answer

Customer support and success teams walking people through a stuck checkout, sign-up or settings page; sales and onboarding teams demoing a live product flow without turning it into a full meeting; and product, design and QA people running internal reviews of a page, layout or staging build. The common thread is a small, ad hoc session where the browser tab itself is the subject, and where the person on the other end should not have to install anything.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

TabConnect's answer

The host side is a Chromium browser extension published for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Live streaming between host and viewers uses WebRTC, with relay and SFU fallback paths for networks that block direct peer-to-peer connections. The viewer side is a plain web page, so participants join in any modern desktop or mobile browser with no extension or client of their own.

What's the story behind your product?

TabConnect's answer

I have always wanted an easy way to share my screen without the customer having to install anything first. Every attempt to help someone with a stuck checkout page or a confusing setting started the same way: download this, join that meeting, create an account. The setup regularly took longer than the actual problem.

TabConnect is screen sharing with that step removed. The host installs one extension in Chrome or Edge and starts a share from the toolbar, then hands over a short password, a direct link or a QR code. The viewer opens it in whatever browser they already have, on a laptop or a phone, and sees the live tab immediately. No account, no extension, no desktop client on their side.

Sharing a single tab instead of the whole screen came from the same instinct. A full desktop share exposes notifications, other windows and whatever else happens to be open, which is exactly why people hesitate to start one. One tab is the smallest thing you can share that still solves the problem, so a session can start in seconds without anyone having to tidy up their screen first.
