Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Tab Workspaces and TabMate.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

TabMate's answer:

The primary audience for TabMate is people who do serious research and work in the browser and need to keep context intact across many tabs, sources, and sessions. That includes product teams, founders, researchers, analysts, students, and other knowledge workers who gather information from multiple web pages and do not want their notes, questions, and evidence scattered across separate tools.

What's the story behind your product?

TabMate's answer:

TabMate exists because my own research workflow was getting harder to manage as my work scaled. I would regularly have 20+ tabs open, plus an AI chatbot and a notepad, moving page by page to copy useful points, save notes, and then paste everything into chat to extract insights or turn it into something usable.

That worked for a while, but over time it became scattered and slow. I started losing track of which note came from which source, which findings were outdated, and what I had already processed. Reusing research across sessions was painful, and constantly copy-pasting selective context into chat tools added even more friction.

I built TabMate to fix that part of the workflow. I wanted a browser research workspace where questions, sources, notes, and saved evidence stay connected instead of being scattered across tabs, docs, and chats. That is how TabMate started, and it is also what I use myself today, including to help fill out this form.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

TabMate's answer:

TabMate is built as a multi-part product stack.

Extension

  • TypeScript
  • React
  • WXT

Backend

  • Python
  • FastAPI
  • SQLAlchemy
  • PostgreSQL with pgvector

Website

  • Astro
  • Svelte
  • Tailwind CSS
  • TypeScript

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

TabMate's answer:

People should choose TabMate because it is designed for real browser research workflows, not just storing tabs or generating answers detached from the source. It keeps questions, excerpts, notes, and saved evidence tied to the page they came from, so users can compare sources, revisit earlier findings, and continue research later without losing context. Compared with generic AI tools, note apps, or tab managers, TabMate is better for work that depends on staying grounded in the original material across many tabs and sessions.

What makes your product unique?

TabMate's answer:

TabMate is the first-of-its-kind extension that allows you to carry and use information across tabs without needing to copy-paste and switch to another tool. It lets you ask from the page you are on, save excerpts and notes with their source attached, and bring that context back later instead of rebuilding it from scratch across tabs and sessions. The result is a research workflow where questions, evidence, and follow-up work stay connected, which makes multi-tab web research far more usable and reusable than with standard tab managers or AI tools alone.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

TabMate's answer:

We are currently focused on early users and smaller research-heavy teams rather than publicly named enterprise accounts.
