Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

Sunny Seed 4 features
Modular JavaScript 5 features
  • Trackers
Sleep with live timer, breastfeeding by side, bottles, solids with allergy notes, diapers, potty and measurements
  • WHO growth charts
Height, weight and head circumference on official WHO curves; percentiles are calculated on the device, corrected age for preemies
  • Partner access
Both parents share one account, log entries and see the same data
  • AI Assistant Integration
Turns short notes into diary entries and answers everyday questions, but refers any medical topic to a pediatrician
  • Improved Code Organization
Modular JavaScript allows developers to break down code into smaller, manageable modules. This enhances code readability and maintainability by organizing related functionality together.
  • Code Reusability
Modules encourage reusability by allowing the same piece of code to be used across different projects or multiple areas of the same application, reducing redundancy.
  • Scalability
As the application grows, managing code becomes easier with modular JavaScript. Each module can be developed, tested, and maintained independently, making the codebase more scalable.
  • Encapsulation
Modules provide encapsulation, preventing variables and functions from polluting the global namespace. This reduces the risk of naming conflicts and bugs.
  • Improved Testing
With code organized into discrete modules, writing unit tests becomes more straightforward. Each module can be tested individually, leading to more reliable and maintainable tests.

Possible disadvantages

  • Increased Complexity
Introducing modularity can add complexity to the build process, as it often requires module loaders or bundlers (like Webpack or Browserify) to manage dependencies.
  • Overhead
For smaller projects, using a modular approach might be overkill, introducing unnecessary overhead in terms of setup, configuration, and code management.
  • Learning Curve
Developers unfamiliar with modular JavaScript may face a learning curve, especially when dealing with module patterns, loaders, and bundlers.
  • Dependency Management
Relying on multiple modules can lead to complex dependency chains, making it challenging to track and resolve dependencies across different modules.
  • Performance Overhead
Modular JavaScript can introduce performance overhead if not managed properly, such as loading many small modules individually, leading to increased HTTP requests.

  • Focuses specifically on modularity, a critical but often overlooked aspect of scalable JavaScript development
  • Covers practical patterns for organizing code, managing dependencies, and structuring larger applications
  • Can help bridge the gap between basic JavaScript knowledge and professional-grade architecture skills
  • Often includes real-world examples rather than purely theoretical concepts
  • Useful for understanding module systems like CommonJS, ES Modules, and build tool configurations

Recommended for

  • Intermediate JavaScript developers wanting to level up their code organization skills
  • Developers transitioning from simple scripts to larger, maintainable applications
  • Teams looking to establish consistent modular coding standards
  • Self-taught programmers seeking structured guidance on architecture
  • Backend or frontend developers working with Node.js or modern JS frameworks who need better module management practices

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Sunny Seed and Modular JavaScript.

What makes your product unique?

Sunny Seed's answer

Three things. First, the WHO growth percentiles are calculated on the device itself, so a child's height and weight never leave the phone, and the rest of the data is stored in the EU. Second, the AI assistant is built to answer everyday questions and to hand anything medical over to a pediatrician instead of guessing at a diagnosis. Third, the diary and the trackers live in one app: the same day can hold a sleep record, a feeding log, a photo and a voice note, and at the end of the month the app writes a letter to your child from those notes.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Sunny Seed's answer

Most baby apps are either a tracker or a diary. Sunny Seed is both, so parents do not keep sleep data in one place and photos in another. It is also built for two parents rather than one: partner access means both log entries and see the same history, instead of one of them reading over the other's shoulder. On privacy it goes further than the category norm, with percentiles computed locally and data kept in the EU. And it is fully localised in six languages, including German and Arabic with a mirrored interface, which matters in multilingual families.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Sunny Seed's answer

Parents in the first three years, from the newborn weeks through weaning and early milestones, and usually both parents rather than one. A large part of the audience is in German-speaking Europe, where questions about where a child's data is stored come up early, and multilingual families who want the app in their own language. It also fits parents of preemies, since growth charts take the corrected age into account.
