You probably already know that you can program LibreOffice, but as you are asking specifically about an API: I can't comment on LibreOffice's API, sorry, as I've never used it. Now, if you're doing it for real, the best and also most common method is simply, "use a computer". Many computer systems are really, really good at solving these equations and inequalities. You can also graph it and see on the graph every time it crosses zero. You can even do it for free without fancy software. That page also contains more details (proofs, notable properties, ...) about each distribution. - The plots are generated using wolframalpha.com.
