Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing SplitterUp.app and Hypervector.

What makes your product unique?

SplitterUp.app's answer

One price, everything included. Most expense splitting apps either charge monthly or lock features behind tiers. SplitterUp is $4.99 once โ€” receipt scanning, multi-currency, settlement optimization, all of it.

Receipt scanning you actually use. Photo to itemized split in seconds. Tap items to assign them to people. No typing in amounts manually.

Your spending data isn't the product. No ads, no tracking, no selling your financial data to third parties. That's the whole point of charging upfront instead of being free.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

SplitterUp.app's answer

Splitwise charges ~$5/month for features SplitterUp includes for $4.99 once. Tricount is free but ad-supported and limited. Most other apps either nickel-and-dime you with subscriptions or make money from your data.

SplitterUp gives you receipt scanning, smart settlements, multi-currency, iPad support, and spending insights โ€” all included from day one. No daily expense limits, no feature gates, no upsells.

It's also the only one in the category that doesn't run ads or sell user data. Your spending habits, who you split with, where you eat โ€” that stays yours.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

SplitterUp.app's answer

Anyone who splits expenses regularly โ€” roommates, friend groups, couples, travel buddies. If you've ever passed your phone around a dinner table trying to figure out who owes what, this is for you.

Particularly useful for people who travel in groups or share a household, where expenses pile up fast and manual tracking falls apart.

What's the story behind your product?

SplitterUp.app's answer

Built by a solo developer with 20 years of backend and systems experience who got frustrated with Splitwise's interface and decided to build something better. Started after a layoff, went from zero mobile development experience to a shipping app in 30 days. The whole thing came from splitting expenses with his wife using a notes app because Splitwise felt like a web app crammed into a phone.
