If you read the docs for Speedtest-CLI you will see that the program timeouts after 10 seconds. Try using this for default timeout of 1 minute and also redirect errors to the same file. Speedtest-cli --timeout 60 >> /bin/speedtestoutput.txt 2>&1. Source: over 3 years ago

What is your latency stddev and bufferbloat score at http://dslreports.com/speedtest? Leave it open in the foreground when you run it and don’t do anything else. Source: over 4 years ago
The problem is bad video quality or input lag? Did you check your ping? A good bandwidht don't mean a good ping. Check your ping (bufferbloat) here. And instead of using a vpn, did you try changing your dns first? I recommend the cloudfire one. Source: over 4 years ago
