  • Serious Question About Gaming
Bufferbloat. This is a property of your connection. Connect your pc with a cable to your gateway and run test here: http://dslreports.com/speedtest. It will show you grate latter for Bufferbloat. If you get lower than B — you should replace your router with the one that can do SQM. More here https://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/bloat/wiki/What_can_I_do_about_Bufferbloat/. This is unlikely to be a problem on DSL or... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Why measure it...
Nah, https://dslreports.com/speedtest is where it’s at. Source: about 2 years ago
  • DUALITY GHOST BULLETS
What is your latency stddev and bufferbloat score at http://dslreports.com/speedtest? Leave it open in the foreground when you run it and don’t do anything else. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Work around for xcloud using works wifi?
The problem is bad video quality or input lag? Did you check your ping? A good bandwidht don't mean a good ping. Check your ping (bufferbloat) here. And instead of using a vpn, did you try changing your dns first? I recommend the cloudfire one. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Set device speed limit?
Then don't. :P Run https://dslreports.com/speedtest and look at the bufferbloat score, not the speed. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Hi folks I recently got an Asus Chromebook and the connection is terrible…
2.4 or 5GHz? Any connection with a margin above 15Mbps of download is enough. What matters most is your bufferbloat, you can check it here. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Xcloud question
Comparing performance against YouTube VODs isn't very fair because YouTube primarily uses the VP9 codec while Xcloud uses H264. A codec that even more modest hardware supports well, so it would be fairer to compare it to Twitch's 1080p60 streaming and see if there are too many skipped frames in the player's advanced info. I have a very weak notebook, with a 2nd gen i3 processor and I still have no problems with... Source: over 2 years ago
  • Fixing Buffer Bloat?
u/i_hate_tomatoes, you don't specifically state that you see Bufferbloat issues when hardwired to the Orbi. Is this the case when running dslreports.com/speedtest from the hardwired PC? And does dslreports.com/speedtest indicate whether the problem is on download or upload? And does Zoom stutter from the hardwired PC? Source: over 2 years ago
  • Advice for QoS with Eeros
If you are technically inclined and have the time, OpenWRT is a great option. For Cake SQM, you will have to configure which Cake algorithm to use, the download and upload speeds, and the type of ISP (cable, DSL, fiber, etc.). You need to set the download and upload speeds to roughly 5-10% less than the ISP provisioned speeds, and then test to see which works best on dslreports.com/speedtest. Source: over 2 years ago
  • I get 60-1500ms in games
What is your bufferbloat at here? And is your pain consistent between all the servers it hits? dslreports.com/speedtest. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Goodbye Eastlink
I don't want you to feel like you're wasting your time, but if you don't feel that way I'd love to see what your results are on https://dslreports.com/speedtest. Source: over 2 years ago
  • I Need A New Firewall. Please help.
After using standard routers and gaming routers from Best Buy for years, I built a router about 3 years ago. I started off with pfSense. I enjoyed it. Eventually I wanted to solve buffer bloat, which I was experiencing terribly. My primary usage of my internet is online gaming. I had read that Untangle was a particularly good firewall for gaming purposes. I swapped to Untangle about a year and a half ago. My... Source: over 2 years ago
  • I randomly freeze for a few seconds when I play video games every few minutes and I get around 80 ping but this is what the WiFi speed test says, what am I doing wrong?
Could be bufferbloat. Run http://dslreports.com/speedtest to check your bufferbloat grade. If it's not great, use a site like https://www.stoplagging.com/ to learn your options for running SQM on your router to eliminate bufferbloat. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Internet Problem
Try the https://dslreports.com/speedtest, are you getting the proper speeds? If you are what is the bufferbloat metric like? If its bad that suggests a router issue. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Could someone interpret these Ping Plotter results for me?
Third, when you know nothing else is using your home's Internet connection, run http://dslreports.com/speedtest to check your bufferbloat grade. Bufferbloat is a widespread design flaw in networking equipment that is the #1 cause of latency spikes. If you don't like your bufferbloat grade, use a site like https://www.stoplagging.com/ to learn your options for running "Smart Queue Management" (SQM) on your router... Source: almost 3 years ago
  • This is my first time using WinMTR and I am trying to solve random large lag spikes. Am I right in that this is saying it's my router?
If that's not the problem, look for bufferbloat by waiting until no one else in your household is using the internet, and then run http://dslreports.com/speedtest and looking at your bufferbloat grade. If you have bufferbloat, use a site like https://www Stoplagging.com/ to learn how to run a modern SQM algorithm on your router to prevent bufferbloat. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • No packet loss but constant rubberbanding in game
At a time when no one else is using your internet connection, run http://dslreports.com/speedtest and see if you have a bufferbloat problem. Source: about 3 years ago
  • About to give up on my Archer A7 wifi router
Out of curiosity, can you find a time when neither you nor anyone else is using the network (make sure nothing's doing any background downloads or anything), and then run http://dslreports.com/speedtest and check your bufferbloat grade. It would be interesting to know how much of the problem you're seeing is coming from bufferbloat-induced lag spikes. Source: about 3 years ago
  • TZ350 Poor throughput
Perform speedtests from various sources on your ISP line (DSL reports is a good go-to... https://dslreports.com/speedtest ). Source: about 3 years ago
  • The free tier needs to be removed. It's unacceptable that paying customere cannot play so that people who do nothing for the servers can overload it and make games unplayable.
Go to dslreports.com/speedtest , make sure hi-res buffer bloat is enabled in the settings and run a test. If you get 3 A's or A+'s then your end is good, if not then try another wifi channel and/or enable QoS on your router if it has it and limit your up/down speed to 90% of whatever your speed test results are to keep bufferbloat in check.
