NotebookLM takes sources one at a time, through a file picker. Source LM takes the batch.

Point it at a JSON or Telegram HTML export, a YouTube playlist or a list of links, and the sources land in the notebook you already have open. Nothing is downloaded to disk: files are built in memory and sent through the notebook page's own upload path.

WHAT YOU CAN ADD - JSON datasets: preview how the file will be split into Markdown packed to the notebook's word limit, then upload. Records are never cut in half, and re-running the same file adds only what is new. - Telegram chat exports: the messages.html files from "Export chat history", split the same way. - YouTube videos, playlists and channels, from the popup or from an "Add to notebook" button inside YouTube itself. The top comment threads can ride along as a separate source. - Web pages: one link or a whole list, one per line. Pages a server cannot fetch (logged-in or JavaScript-rendered) are read from the tab you have open. - Selected text: right-click, "Add selection to Notebook".

IN THE SOURCES PANEL Filter by name, select duplicates in one click, delete everything checked in one batch, and replace sources NotebookLM failed to fetch with the text of the open page.

PRIVACY No server behind the extension and no account to create. Files, pages and notebook contents never leave the browser: it acts inside your own signed-in tab. Only your settings and pending jobs are stored, locally.

FREE AND PRO Single sources are always free. Bulk actions are free for 5 runs a month, then need a one-time $29 licence, no subscription. Chrome and Edge. Source-available under a noncommercial licence (not OSI open source): github.com/source-lm/source-lm-extension

Analysis of Kortex.co

Overall verdict

  • Kortex.co appears to be a niche productivity or AI-assisted knowledge/note-taking tool, but there isn't enough verified, widely available information to make a definitive quality judgment. Based on its positioning, it seems reasonably useful for specific workflows, though it likely lacks the broad ecosystem, integrations, and long-term track record of major established competitors in the space.

Why this product is good

  • Focuses on a specific niche (likely knowledge management or AI-assisted note-taking) rather than trying to be a generalist tool
  • Smaller product teams often iterate faster and respond to user feedback more directly
  • May offer a more streamlined, less bloated interface compared to larger competitors
  • Could provide competitive pricing due to being a smaller or newer player

Recommended for

  • Users looking for a lightweight alternative to mainstream note-taking or knowledge management apps
  • Early adopters comfortable trying newer or less established tools
  • Individuals or small teams with specific workflow needs that aren't well served by larger platforms
  • Users who prioritize simplicity over extensive third-party integrations

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Source LM and Kortex.co.

What makes your product unique?

Source LM's answer

It builds the source files in memory and pushes them through the notebook page's own upload path, so nothing is written to disk and there is no backend and no account. A JSON or Telegram export becomes as many Markdown sources as it takes, packed to a 400,000-word budget under NotebookLM's 500,000-word cap per source, and a record is never cut in half. Run it again on a grown export and only the new records upload, because the state is read back from the notebook's own source names rather than from a local watermark.

Kortex.co's answer:

Kortex is unique because it combines AI-driven writing assistance with a powerful knowledge management system designed specifically for creators, writers, and marketers. Unlike generic tools, Kortex helps you capture, organize, and connect your ideas in a seamless way, turning raw notes and highlights into structured, meaningful content. With intelligent features like AI-assisted synthesis, interconnected notes, and integrations with tools like Readwise, Kortex acts as your "second brain," helping you create, collaborate, and stay organized throughout your creative process.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Source LM's answer

Two practical differences. First, there is no server in the path: the extension acts inside your own signed-in tab, so your files, pages and notebook contents never reach a third party, and the code ships unminified and source-available so you can check that. Second, the price is a one-time $29 licence instead of a subscription, and single sources - one page, one link, one video, one selection - stay free forever; only bulk actions are metered, at 5 free runs a month.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Source LM's answer

People who already work in NotebookLM and have hit its one-at-a-time file picker: researchers and students loading a corpus of papers or transcripts, support and ops teams dumping ticket or chat exports, and anyone who wants a Telegram history, a YouTube playlist or a channel inside a notebook. No technical setup is assumed - it is a Chrome and Edge extension, not a script to run.

What's the story behind your product?

Source LM's answer

It started with a chat export that nobody wanted to split by hand: thousands of messages that NotebookLM would only take as files under its per-source word cap. The first version was a script producing Markdown chunks, and the annoying part was that the chunks still had to be dragged into the notebook one by one. Once the upload could go straight into the open notebook, the disk step disappeared, and everything else - YouTube, link lists, the current page, selected text - was routed through the same path.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Source LM's answer

TypeScript on Chrome's Manifest V3, bundled with esbuild, with zero runtime dependencies and no framework: the popup is plain DOM. There is no backend - uploads go through the notebook page's own upload endpoint from inside your tab, with a DOM-injection fallback if that path changes, and settings and pending jobs live in chrome.storage. Licence keys are checked directly against the payment provider's public API, so there is still no server of ours in the path.
