I've use it instead of Firebase on a 15$ DigitalOcean droplet and saved around ~$150 a month. Managing my own infra does take some extra time, but definitely worth it. The APIs and SDK are also surprisingly much easier to consume than Firebase. Waiting for the cloud version.

Something that can make good polls is needed. Think about expanding on it. I use SESH https://sesh.fyi which markets itself as being for events but also has polls. Itโs been a struggle to find a really good poll bot though. You could do well if you build out your bot and focus on great polls. Source: over 3 years ago

For bots I would recommend Sesh it lets you create events and polls that convert to timezones and even sync to a calendar you can subscribe to in your google calendar, ical etc to have it autopopulate to your devices. Initially, I was using the Supabase free tier, but I was hitting the limits, and my app was becoming stale. Then I switched to Appwrite.
