BuddySOS keeps your whole group together at festivals, concerts, road trips, hikes, nights out, campuses, and family travel. It replaces the messy group text and the string of "where are you?" messages with one live map that shows everyone at once, on iPhone and Android together.

The core of the app is a one-tap SOS. Tap once and everyone in your group gets an alert with your live location attached. That same tap sends a text to your emergency contacts, so people without the app know you need help and know where you are.

Setup takes seconds. Create a group, invite people by phone number or a shareable link, and watch everyone move on the map. Run up to 10 groups side by side: one for the trip, one for the family, one for the festival crew. Pause a group when you want a break from sharing, or delete it once the trip ends. Safe Zones let you draw a boundary around a spot and get a notification the moment someone crosses it.

Privacy and battery come built in. A Tracking Window schedules when sharing turns on and off, so BuddySOS runs for the event and shuts itself off after. Battery Saver Mode keeps location going through a full day or night without draining your phone. Your group sees your location and nobody else does. Advertisers and data brokers never get it. BuddySOS encrypts your data in transit and at rest, keeps no location history, and never sells what it holds.

Download BuddySOS free with every core safety feature included. Pay $1.99/month to remove ads and unlock more groups and Safe Zones, or open extra slots by watching a quick rewarded video. One map, one tap, iPhone and Android.

s3-lambda features and specs

  • Batch processing of S3 objects
s3-lambda provides a straightforward way to perform batch operations on large numbers of S3 objects, enabling map, filter, and reduce-style processing over entire S3 buckets or prefixes without writing boilerplate code.
  • Familiar functional API
The library uses a functional programming paradigm with operations like map, filter, and reduce, making it intuitive for JavaScript developers to process S3 objects using patterns they already know.
  • Built-in concurrency control
s3-lambda handles parallel processing of S3 objects with configurable concurrency, allowing users to control how many operations run simultaneously and avoid overwhelming AWS resources or hitting rate limits.
  • Context-aware operations
The library provides a context object within each operation that includes useful metadata about the current object being processed, simplifying access to S3 object properties during transformations.
  • Easy integration with Lambda
Designed to work seamlessly within AWS Lambda functions, making it straightforward to set up event-driven, serverless pipelines for processing large volumes of S3 data without managing infrastructure.

Possible disadvantages of s3-lambda

  • Unmaintained project
The repository appears to be no longer actively maintained, with limited recent commits and unresolved issues, which raises concerns about long-term reliability, security patches, and compatibility with newer AWS SDK versions.
  • Limited documentation
The project's documentation is relatively sparse, lacking comprehensive examples, edge case handling guidance, and detailed API references, which can make it challenging for new users to adopt effectively.
  • AWS SDK version dependency
The library depends on an older version of the AWS SDK for JavaScript, which may conflict with projects using the newer AWS SDK v3 and could miss out on performance improvements and features in updated SDKs.
  • Limited error handling flexibility
The built-in error handling mechanisms are relatively basic, and handling partial failures or implementing sophisticated retry logic for individual object operations requires additional custom code from the developer.
  • Narrow scope of functionality
The library is tightly focused on S3 object processing and does not integrate with other AWS services or provide utilities beyond basic map/filter/reduce operations, limiting its usefulness in more complex data pipeline scenarios.

BuddySOS.app features and specs

  • One-Tap SOS
Trigger an emergency alert to your whole group with a single tap. Your live location is attached automatically so buddies know exactly where you are.
  • SOS Text Escalation
Sends an emergency text with your location to your contacts even if they don't have the app installed, so help reaches people who aren't BuddySOS users.
  • Live Location Sharing
See every group member's real-time position on a shared map, so no one gets lost or left behind at crowded events, festivals, or on trips.
  • Safe Zones
Set boundary alerts around a location and get notified the moment a group member enters or leaves. Useful for venues, campuses, and keeping tabs on the crew.
  • Group Management
Create and manage up to 10 groups at once, invite members by phone number or shareable link, pause a group to stop sharing, and delete it when the trip's over.
  • Tracking Window
Schedule automatic start and end times for location sharing, so it turns on for the event or trip and shuts off on its own afterward.

Analysis of s3-lambda

Overall verdict

  • s3-lambda is a useful Node.js library for performing operations like map, reduce, and filter directly on S3 objects using Lambda, making it good for developers who need efficient, serverless-based batch processing of S3 data without managing infrastructure. It is well suited for smaller to medium projects but may not be actively maintained for enterprise-scale needs.

Why this product is good

  • Simplifies common S3 batch operations (map, filter, reduce) with a clean, functional API
  • Leverages AWS Lambda for scalable, serverless parallel processing of S3 objects
  • Reduces boilerplate code for iterating over and transforming large numbers of S3 objects
  • Open-source and free to use, allowing customization for specific workflows
  • Integrates well with existing AWS infrastructure and Node.js applications

Recommended for

  • Developers building serverless data pipelines on AWS
  • Teams needing to process or transform large sets of S3 objects without provisioning servers
  • Node.js developers looking for a functional programming approach to S3 operations
  • Projects with batch processing needs that fit within Lambda's execution limits
  • Prototyping or small-to-medium scale ETL tasks involving S3 data

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing s3-lambda and BuddySOS.app.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

BuddySOS.app's answer:

Find My locks you into Apple and skips Android entirely. Life360 leans on a subscription and built its early reputation on selling location data. Snapchat's map is a social toy, not a safety tool. BuddySOS puts iPhone and Android friends on one map, gives you a one-tap SOS that also texts non-users, and charges nothing for the safety features that matter. It stores no location history and never sells your data. It also fits how people actually gather: you spin up a group for the festival or the road trip, then pause or delete it when the weekend ends, instead of tracking your family forever.

What makes your product unique?

BuddySOS.app's answer:

BuddySOS is the rare group-safety app where the SOS reaches people who don't have the app. Tap once and your crew sees an alert on the live map with your location, and the same tap texts your emergency contacts, so a parent or a friend without BuddySOS still gets the message and the map pin. It runs on iPhone and Android in the same group, keeps no location history, and gives away every core safety feature for free. Most apps make you pick one of those. BuddySOS ships all of them together.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

BuddySOS.app's answer:

The person who organizes the group. Think of the friend who plans the festival trip, the parent coordinating a family vacation, the RA watching a floor of students, the hiking-group lead. They download BuddySOS first and pull everyone else in, so one organizer often brings five to ten people with them. Beyond consumers, event, venue, and campus security teams use the operator side to keep eyes on a crowd. The common thread: people responsible for a group in a place where phones get lost and crowds swallow signal.

What's the story behind your product?

BuddySOS.app's answer:

We created BuddySOS after an incident at a music festival in California where a man suddenly collapsed behind us and we had a lot of trouble getting him help. We waved our arms, yelled out, flashed our lights but we went unnoticed in a sea of 100,000+ people. After that experience, we wanted to create a way for people to stay connected but also get help when they needed it the most.
