   Powerful Data Visualization Tool with a Steep Learning Curve

   I’ve used Tableau to analyze and present data for business reporting, and its strength is clearly in visualization. Turning raw data into interactive dashboards is fast once you understand how the tool works, and the end results look polished and professional.

   However, getting to that point isn’t instant. New users may struggle with calculations, data modeling, and performance tuning. Licensing costs are also high, which can be difficult to justify for smaller teams or individual users.

   Tableau works best for organizations that rely heavily on data-driven decisions and can invest time and budget into analytics. It’s not the easiest or cheapest option, but the output quality makes it worthwhile

• I published a 15-year list of product management articles that covers much of my career to date. Saved first in bookmarks, then in Wordpress, then in Airtable, now in Baserow.

  Alternatives were Rows and Airtable. Rows tends to be better at calculation, while Airtable tends to be better at storing and sorting data as a database. I was not aware of the open-source alternative called Baserow at the time.   [Baserow], [APITable], [Grist], and [Rowy] are all open source Airtable alternatives which offer hosted SaaS versions that include API access, though it's a bit difficult to compare the API rate limits across all these products. Self-hosting an app like this would allow you to bypass API rate limits altogether, if you're open to it. • Which tool is easiest for building API calls?

  I work at Rows. It’s a spreadsheet with native UI to import data from many services ( Google Analytics, Ads platforms, BigQuery,…) plus you can make your own custom api calls directly from the grid.   For example, we have a project to compare Tableau, Power BI, and InetSoft. The need for strong pagination-based email delivery eliminated Tableau. AWS's Linux instance is the targeted platform which makes Power BI less than ideal. Source: over 4 years ago

• Anyone go into Data Analytics after this program?

  I just started learning Tableau because our dept is transitioning into Tableau from Power BI. Since I already have years of experience with Power BI I just went over their tutorials from tableau.com and got onboarded pretty quick. I'm still learning it but I'm at least able to build out reports and get things done. Its not too difficult to pickup one BI tool when you have experience with another. Source: over 4 years ago
