In my own case, I struggled for over a decade, to get anywhere at all useful with Spanish, until someone in this forum recommended readlang.com. I can't speak for anyone else, but for myself: just reading entire stories, as fast as I could, without stopping AT ALL when I ran into an unknown word, or tense, or idiom, made THE critical difference. Readlang, but you have to have a basic vocabulary; otherwise it is not easy. Https://readlang.com/ I've had a love and hate relationship with Duolingo for Dutch and French. I'm trying it for Greek now and it seems to have improved over the last few years. Source: about 3 years ago

Apache Karaf with OSGi works pretty nice using annotation based dependency injection with the declarative services, removing the need to mess with those hopefully archaic XML blueprints. Too bad it's not as trendy as spring and the developers so many of the tutorials can be a bit dated and hard to find.
