Possible disadvantages of React Native Elements

  • Limited Advanced Components
While React Native Elements offers a wide variety of basic UI components, it may lack some advanced components that require developers to implement their own solutions or integrate additional libraries.
  • Performance Overhead
The abstraction layer added by using React Native Elements may introduce some performance overhead compared to building components from scratch, especially for more complex or resource-intensive applications.
  • Third-party Dependency
Relying on a third-party library means developers may face issues related to external dependencies such as delays in updates or compatibility issues with newer versions of React Native.
  • Learning Curve for Customization
While the library is designed to be easy to use, fully customizing the components to meet specific UI/UX requirements may involve a learning curve, especially for developers new to the ecosystem.

Roda Framework features and specs

The framework supports scalable applications by managing resources efficiently and allowing developers to handle requests with optimized resource allocation.
  • Plugin System
Roda has a robust plugin system that makes it easy to extend the framework's functionality with reusable components without polluting the core.

Possible disadvantages of Roda Framework

  • Steep Learning Curve
For developers new to Roda or coming from more mainstream frameworks, the unique approach and minimal documentation can make the learning process challenging.
  • Limited Community
Roda has a smaller community compared to larger frameworks like Rails, which may result in fewer resources, tutorials, and third-party plugins available.
  • Minimalist Design Constraints
The minimalistic design, while beneficial for performance, means that developers may need to implement more features manually compared to more feature-rich frameworks.
  • Less Mainstream
Being less popular than frameworks like Rails, Roda might not be the first choice for organizations looking for widespread support and validation in the Ruby ecosystem.
  • Documentation Depth
While the framework has documentation, it may not be as comprehensive or beginner-friendly as larger, more established frameworks, potentially hindering new users.

  • It's not Ruby that's slow, it's your database
Personal opinion, if I was going to use htmx with a PORO backend I'd probably go for Roda[1] and Sequel. If it was going to be read heavy I think I'd also pair that with SQLite for low latency and cheaper deployments. If I didn't know exactly how requirements are likely to change over time I'd probably go with with Rails, Postgres[2], Redis and Hotwire. You can go a long way with that and a small team. 1. ... - Source: Hacker News / almost 4 years ago
  • To Ruby from Python
This is personal opinion but these days I'd probably swap Sinatra for Roda[1] for small API services. It's generally faster, uses less memory and is a really good example of well written ruby code, IMHO. I also really like Jeremy Evans' book, Polished Ruby. 1. http://roda.jeremyevans.net/index.html. - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
  • Don't make me think, or why I switched to Rails from JavaScript SPAs
It’s not really true that there are no other options for web development in ruby. Roda[1], for instance, has a strong following for API work. It’s just that Rails is a safe choice. 1. http://roda.jeremyevans.net/index.html. - Source: Hacker News / over 4 years ago
