Rclone lacks a graphical user interface (GUI), which could be a limitation for users who prefer or need a more visual interaction with their backup and synchronization tasks.
  • Limited Support
While Rclone has a supportive community, it lacks formal customer support, which might be an issue for enterprise users needing prompt troubleshooting.
  • Resource Intensive
Running complex synchronization tasks, especially involving large volumes of data, can be resource-intensive in terms of both CPU and memory.
  • Configuration Complexity
The setup and configuration of Rclone can be complicated, requiring users to manually configure remote storage connections through text files or command-line prompts.

Fig Scripts features and specs

Possible disadvantages of Fig Scripts

  • Limited platform support
Fig was historically focused on macOS, which limited its availability to developers working on Linux or Windows platforms, reducing its appeal for cross-platform teams.
  • Dependency on Fig ecosystem
Using Fig Scripts often requires having the broader Fig (now acquired by AWS and rebranded) tooling installed, creating a dependency on an external ecosystem that may change or be discontinued.
  • Uncertain future after acquisition
After Fig was acquired by Amazon and integrated into AWS, the future direction and continued support of Fig Scripts became uncertain, raising concerns about long-term reliability for users who depend on it.
  • Limited script discoverability
Finding the right script for a specific use case can be challenging, as the library may not be as well-organized or searchable as more mature package managers or script repositories.
  • Learning curve for customization
While pre-built scripts are easy to use, customizing or creating new scripts requires understanding Fig's specific configuration format and conventions, which adds a learning curve beyond standard shell scripting.

  • Dropbox CEO Drew Houston to step down
While there isn't a proper Linux client, if you find yourself on a Linux box and need to sync to or from iCloud, rclone[1] works great. Just putting this out there in the hope that it might help someone. Hello, as always: imho (!) tar is great, and well kown - but not particularly for "incremental backups over the net" ... This is what rsync is/was for. Idk ... You can schedule the takeout to Drive, then use a tool such as rclone (amazing tool) to pull it down. It should not add any costs except the storage for the takeout zip on drive. Look at supported providers in rclone and you might find easy solutions for some hard sync problems: https://rclone.org/#providers. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago

Just offering some advice if you aren't aware. If you are, freely ignore. For convenience, the rclone tool is nice for most cloud storage like google and stuff that make rsync annoying[0] rsync also offers compression[1], and you might want to balance it depending if you want to be CPU bound or IO bound. You can pick the compression and level, with more options than just the `-z` flag. You can also increase speed... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
