Though I do not register at all on the leader board I will sometimes work obsessively on a problem just to make one of the level icons light up for me. I do hobby programing. It is sometimes to create something (supposedly) useful. Lately though it is more discovery and a little math like. I enjoy Project Euler (https://projecteuler.net/. This all comes from Artifact the DotA card game, the ENTIRE game is the said group of people trying to map out the would-be draw ending and had a comic where this all came from. Don't know if the comic is still available anywhere because Valve killed playartifact.com (it now redirects to the steam page for it) but if you can find it then yeah theres your source.
