Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing PrivacyNotes and BePrepared Solutions.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

PrivacyNotes's answer

Honestly? We have no idea, and that is the entire point. Signup is anonymous (a recovery phrase or Google, no email or personal details), the app ships zero analytics and zero trackers, and zero-knowledge encryption means we cannot see who you are or what you store. We could not name a single customer if we tried. A privacy product that tracked its users closely enough to brag about them would be missing the plot.

What makes your product unique?

PrivacyNotes's answer

PrivacyNotes is the only zero-knowledge encrypted workspace that keeps notes, tasks, journals, files, and a password vault behind one set of on-device keys. Most privacy apps do one of those well and rent it to you monthly. We do all five, encrypt everything with XChaCha20-Poly1305 before it leaves your device, and charge once instead of forever. The encryption core is open core, published so the claims can be verified rather than trusted.

BePrepared Solutions's answer:

Most preparedness tools stop at the alert. We are built around what happens after it.

BeAware watches official U.S. hazard feeds for your exact street address — not your city, not your county. The rest of the platform turns that into action: BeReady builds an emergency plan around your actual household, BeEquipped assembles the specific supplies that plan calls for, and BeAdvised puts you on a call with our founders when you would rather ask a person.

Two other things set it apart:

  • Nothing to install. It all runs in the browser, so there is no app to maintain.
  • Calm by design. We are not a doomsday brand. The tone is evidence-led — what the alert data actually shows, and the preparation that matters most.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

PrivacyNotes's answer

Three reasons:

  • One app, not four subscriptions. Standard Notes, Day One, and Lunatask each rent you a slice (notes, journaling, tasks). PrivacyNotes covers all of them plus files and a vault, for a fair one-time fee.
  • Real zero-knowledge. Your keys come from a recovery phrase that never touches our servers, so we cannot read your notes, your filenames, or your metadata. Some encrypted apps leave note or task metadata in the clear; we do not.
  • Verifiable, not just trusted. The crypto and schema are open core and published for review, and there is no ad, tracker, or analytics anywhere in the app.

BePrepared Solutions's answer:

Watch Duty and Citizen are very good at what they do — fast, community-sourced awareness of an incident that is unfolding right now. If that is all you need, they are hard to beat.

Choose BePrepared Solutions when awareness is not enough:

  • You want the plan, not just the ping. We turn an alert into a household-specific emergency plan, a supply list, and a next step.
  • You want it handled before anything happens. Most of the value is in the quiet weeks: understanding your address's actual risk history, and having a plan and a kit already in place.
  • You want more than one hazard type. We read from 8+ official feeds rather than specialising in wildfire or urban incidents.
  • You do not want another app. Everything runs in the browser.

If you already use Watch Duty or Citizen, they pair well with us. They tell you what is happening this minute; we handle what you do about it.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

PrivacyNotes's answer

Privacy-conscious individuals and independent professionals who handle information they would not want a vendor reading: lawyers, journalists, healthcare and mental-health practitioners, developers, security specialists, researchers, and founders. It also fits anyone who simply wants one private home for their notes, tasks, journaling, and wellness tracking instead of spreading them across surveillance-funded apps.

BePrepared Solutions's answer:

Ordinary households rather than preppers.

The person we build for is usually a parent or a caregiver who has had one uncomfortable moment — a hurricane track that wobbled toward them, a multi-day outage, a wildfire season that got close — and realised they had no actual plan. They are capable and busy. They are not going to build a spreadsheet, and they are actively put off by the doomsday end of this category.

Typical profiles:

  • Families with young children, elderly parents, or pets, where "grab and go" is not simple
  • Homeowners in hurricane, wildfire, flood, tornado, or grid-fragile regions
  • People looking after someone at a second address they cannot see day to day
  • Small organisations and community groups that need the same thing across more than one site

The common thread is that they want to feel capable, not frightened.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

PrivacyNotes's answer

React, TypeScript, Vite and Tailwind CSS.

BePrepared Solutions's answer:

BePrepared Solutions is a TypeScript codebase end to end.

  • Frontend: Next.js (App Router) and React, with Tailwind CSS and Radix-based components
  • Backend: Next.js server actions and route handlers, PostgreSQL with Drizzle ORM
  • Background work: a durable task runner handles scheduled alert polling, digest delivery, and long-running jobs
  • AI: large language models accessed through OpenRouter, used for personalised plan and report generation with structured, schema-validated output
  • Payments: Stripe
  • Mapping: Google Maps

Alert data comes from official U.S. public feeds rather than scraped or crowd-sourced reports.

What's the story behind your product?

PrivacyNotes's answer

PrivacyNotes started from a simple frustration: staying organized meant scattering your life across half a dozen apps, most of which could read everything you typed and billed you monthly for the privilege. We wanted one place for notes, tasks, journals, files, and passwords, encrypted so thoroughly that the people running the servers could not read a word of it, and paid for once rather than forever. So we built the encryption first, made the keys live only on your device, and published the crypto as open core so the promise could be checked, not just believed. Everything else grew from one rule: your data is yours, and no one else's to mine.

BePrepared Solutions's answer:

BePrepared Solutions was founded in 2026 by Tiran Dagan and Brian Burk.

We built it because most people know they should be more prepared but do not know where to start. Emergency readiness is confusing, intimidating, and time-consuming — especially for busy households that want to protect the people they love without adopting a fear-based or doomsday mindset. The options available tended to be either raw alert feeds or survivalist content, and neither turns into a plan a normal family will actually follow.

So the goal became making preparedness practical, personal, and accessible: local awareness, personalised planning, curated supplies, education, and expert guidance in one connected platform.

We also stay close to the community we serve. We have a media partnership with the Prepper Broadcasting Network and appear on air regularly, publishing full show notes for those episodes with every source named and dated.

Our vision is a world where every household can move from quiet anxiety to calm confidence — knowing what is happening, knowing what to do, and having what they need before an emergency arrives.

Know what's happening. Know what to do. BePrepared.
