  • Improved Code Organization
Modular JavaScript allows developers to break down code into smaller, manageable modules. This enhances code readability and maintainability by organizing related functionality together.
  • Code Reusability
Modules encourage reusability by allowing the same piece of code to be used across different projects or multiple areas of the same application, reducing redundancy.
  • Scalability
As the application grows, managing code becomes easier with modular JavaScript. Each module can be developed, tested, and maintained independently, making the codebase more scalable.
  • Encapsulation
Modules provide encapsulation, preventing variables and functions from polluting the global namespace. This reduces the risk of naming conflicts and bugs.
  • Improved Testing
With code organized into discrete modules, writing unit tests becomes more straightforward. Each module can be tested individually, leading to more reliable and maintainable tests.

Possible disadvantages

  • Increased Complexity
Introducing modularity can add complexity to the build process, as it often requires module loaders or bundlers (like Webpack or Browserify) to manage dependencies.
  • Overhead
For smaller projects, using a modular approach might be overkill, introducing unnecessary overhead in terms of setup, configuration, and code management.
  • Learning Curve
Developers unfamiliar with modular JavaScript may face a learning curve, especially when dealing with module patterns, loaders, and bundlers.
  • Dependency Management
Relying on multiple modules can lead to complex dependency chains, making it challenging to track and resolve dependencies across different modules.
  • Performance Overhead
Modular JavaScript can introduce performance overhead if not managed properly, such as loading many small modules individually, leading to increased HTTP requests.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing PitchMap and Modular JavaScript.

What makes your product unique?

PitchMap's answer

PitchMap puts business networking on a live map instead of in a feed. Every pin is a real person nearby, so you can see who is around you right now, what they are working on and what they need — then act on it while you are still in the same place.

A few things that are specific to PitchMap:

  • Opportunities are geographic. A post is shown to people close enough to actually do something about it, not to an anonymous global timeline.
  • Travel mode lets you drop your pin in a city before you get there, so meetings are already lined up when you land.
  • Events and Groups sit on the same map, and Inner Circle lets community hosts charge for their exclusive spaces.
  • Filters and tags work on intent (skill, industry, what someone is looking for), not just job titles.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

PitchMap's answer

Most networking tools optimise for reach; PitchMap optimises for proximity and timing.

  • Against feed-based professional networks: you are not competing for attention in a global stream. You see and are seen by the people who are physically close and currently relevant.
  • Against event platforms: events are one part of PitchMap, not the whole product. Between events you still have a live map, opportunity posts and direct messaging to keep the connection going.
  • Against intro/matching services: there is no waiting for a weekly match. You browse the map, filter for what you need and reach out immediately.
  • It is free to get started, works straight from the browser, and travel mode means it keeps working when you leave your home city.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

PitchMap's answer

PitchMap is built for people whose next deal depends on meeting the right person:

  • Founders and early-stage startup teams looking for co-founders, advisors, customers or investors close by.
  • Investors and angels who want to see what is being built in their city or in a city they are visiting.
  • Freelancers, consultants and agencies looking for local clients and collaborators.
  • Sales, business development and partnership professionals working a territory.
  • Community builders and event hosts who want to fill a room with relevant people and run paid, members-only groups.

It is equally useful for frequent business travellers, who use travel mode to build a schedule in a city before arriving.

What's the story behind your product?

PitchMap's answer

PitchMap was started by founder and CEO Cameron Yemmi, who came from a sales and business development background and kept running into the same problem: the right partner, client or investor was often only a few streets away, and neither side ever found out.

The idea was to make that invisible layer visible — a real-time, geospatial opportunity network where people, ideas and needs show up on a map instead of disappearing into a feed. PitchMap grew out of that into a full platform with opportunity posts, events, groups and travel mode, all organised around where you actually are.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

PitchMap's answer

PitchMap is a web application built on a modern JavaScript stack:

  • Next.js / React for the front end, served as a fast, responsive web app that works on desktop and mobile browsers.
  • Mapbox GL JS with a custom map style for the live map, clustering and geospatial rendering.
  • A dedicated REST API (api.pitchmap.app) handling discovery, profiles, opportunities, events, groups and messaging.
  • Geospatial queries for proximity search, so nearby people and posts are resolved in real time from your location or your travel-mode pin.
