Questions and Answers

As answered by people managing Marked and Kollabe.

What makes your product unique?

Kollabe's answer:

Kollabe is a purpose-built SaaS platform for agile rituals like retrospectives, planning poker, and standups, offering a seamless experience that feels custom to each meeting type rather than a generic template. It combines a lightweight, easy-to-use interface with powerful features such as grouping, voting, presentation mode, exports to Jira/GitHub/Azure DevOps, and enterprise options like SSO. Kollabe also emphasizes engagement and fun through hundreds of templates, icebreakers, and interactive features like emoji confetti, while supporting global teams with multilingual access. This balance of simplicity, depth, and focus on team energy makes Kollabe stand out from generic collaboration tools.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Kollabe's answer:

People choose Kollabe over competitors because itโ€™s purpose-built for agile rituals, quick to start with no signups or downloads, and combines simplicity with powerful features like AI grouping, voting, exports, and integrations. Itโ€™s fun and engaging with icebreakers, templates, and reactions, affordable with a generous free tier and flat pricing, and accessible on any device, making it a lightweight yet powerful alternative to heavier or more expensive tools.

How would you describe your primary audience?

Kollabe's answer:

Kollabeโ€™s primary audience is agile software teams, especially remote or hybrid groups, who run recurring rituals like sprint retrospectives, planning poker, and standups. These teams value tools that are quick to start, simple to use, and engaging, while also supporting scale through integrations, exports, and enterprise features.

What's the story behind your product?

Kollabe's answer:

Kollabe started as a simple tool to help remote teams run agile rituals more smoothly, after seeing how clunky and uninspired most retrospective and planning poker tools felt. What began as a side project grew quickly as teams valued its simplicity, fun, and ability to make meetings engaging instead of a chore. Over time, Kollabe expanded with features like AI-powered grouping, icebreakers, templates, and integrations, evolving into a dedicated platform that balances lightweight ease of use with the power and flexibility needed by modern agile teams.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Kollabe's answer:

Kollabe is built with a modern web stack centered on React and Next.js, with TypeScript for type safety. It uses Prisma as the ORM with a Postgres database, and is hosted primarily on Vercel with supporting services on AWS and DigitalOcean. This setup gives Kollabe speed, reliability, and scalability while keeping the product lightweight and easy to maintain.

  • Ask HN: Where are the good Markdown to PDF tools (that meet these requirements)?
Iโ€™ve not used it for very large documents, but Iโ€™ve been very happy with the fidelity of conversion using Marked 2 (https://marked2app.com) I believe itโ€™s Mac only. I use it sometimes when Iโ€™m creating PDFs from my personal documentation to share more publicly, which I keep in Markdown and deploy on Gitlab Pages as a static site. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Epub rendering with Pandoc
I write a LOT of documentation in Markdown for $DAYJOB. I normally use Marked2 (not free, but I paid for my license 7-8 years ago) or MacDown (free) to preview them, and to export them to PDF. Both of these programs are specific to macOS, but a web search for "markdown editor" turns up a few dozen others, for other platforms. Most of these will have an "export to PDF" function built into them. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • MdBook โ€“ Create book from Markdown files. Like Gitbook but implemented in Rust
Marked 2 https://marked2app.com/ is a dedicated viewer for Markdown and other text formats, but it's Mac only. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Getting Tracked Food from WW API
I use Marked2 on macOS which is a rendered but not an editor. I use vim, so I really just want a preview. Marked2 watches writes and automatically scrolls to the most recent write location. You can also customize CSS to get fancy with PDF exports if you want. https://marked2app.com. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Exporting Templates to PDF
You could just open the underlying file with a better mardown>PDF app. If you're on a mac I suggest Marked2, which is very good. Source: about 3 years ago
