Ive done a number of these sets ups and there should be software to break up the comp for you. The workflow ive used the past is make one 4k comp and then send it thru https://madmapper.com or similar. If you HAVE to do it the way you describe check out render region of interest. Have a look at Sugar Bytes' DrumComputer, it does some really cool stuff with synthesis and modulation. I don't know if it'll get a rytm sound necessarily but it's really interesting. I got it on iOS but I might get it again in VST when they next have a sale. Source: over 3 years ago

I tend to use Ableton Drum Racks (I loooove the AG kit), but if we are talking dedicated VSTs, I really really like Drumcomputer by SugarBytes. Itโs very fun to use, quite deep and very versatile. Money very well spent, I think. Source: about 4 years ago
