Next.js and TypeScript on the front end, a Fastify (Node) API with Postgres behind it, hosted on Cloudflare. Nothing exotic โ the interesting part is the link routing, not the stack.

The annoying moment was watching a link in an Instagram bio open a logged-out mini-browser , no watch history, no saved cart, nothing. People tapped, landed on a stranger's version of the page, and left. So we built a link that just opens the real app instead. The QR codes, analytics and bio page all grew out of that one problem.

Most short links open inside the app's built-in browser, where people are logged out and half the buttons don't work. Ours don't. A directinapp link opens the actual app โ the post in Instagram, the product in Amazon โ and only falls back to the website if the app isn't installed. The same link also comes with a QR code and live click stats. Other shorteners just make the URL shorter; we care about where the tap actually lands.

I've been Using Linktree for a few years now and while I needed a simple list of all my links, it did fine.
But when I decided to make changes, I quickly realized that there's simply no tools for my need. You cannot add even simple text or an image. Customization is really limited in general.
