Possible disadvantages of Kubernetes

  • Complexity
The learning curve associated with Kubernetes is steep due to its numerous components, configurations, and operational paradigms.
  • Resource Intensive
Running a Kubernetes cluster can be resource-intensive, often requiring significant CPU, memory, and storage resources, which can be costly.
  • Operational Challenges
Managing a Kubernetes cluster requires expertise in areas such as networking, security, and cluster lifecycle management, making it challenging for smaller teams or organizations.
  • Debugging and Troubleshooting
Pinpointing issues within a Kubernetes cluster can be difficult due to its distributed and dynamic nature, which can complicate debugging and troubleshooting processes.
  • Configuration Overhead
Kubernetes involves numerous configurations and settings, which can be overwhelming and error-prone, especially during initial setup and deployment.
  • Security Management
While Kubernetes provides various security features, managing those securely requires in-depth knowledge and diligence, as misconfigurations can lead to vulnerabilities.

  • Jenkins as a Code, or how I stopped clicking around in the UI
I run the Jenkins controller in Kubernetes. Helm chart for the deploy, persistent volume for the home dir, a sidecar that injects JCasC config from a ConfigMap. Upgrading Jenkins is just bumping a chart version. Rolling back is rolling back a chart version. Plugin lists are values in a Helm values.yaml file, version-pinned, and reviewed in a pull request like any other change. - Source: dev.to / about 2 months ago
  • The weekend I fell down the MCP rabbit hole

  • Should you build or buy an MCP runtime for enterprise AI agents in 2026?
Building your own runtime layer is the right call in a narrow set of scenarios. The open-source ecosystem has matured enough that deep platform engineering teams can stand up their own orchestration layer on top of the official Model Context Protocol Python or TypeScript SDKs. The SDKs implement the MCP specification over JSON-RPC 2.0 and support both stdio for local process communication and Streamable HTTP for... - Source: dev.to / about 2 months ago

  • Ask HN: Google migrated Google Workspace billing to Squrespace, now what?
I wanted to like Porkbun but failed to buy a .io domain through them because of technical problems on their end. Their website is also a bit programmer-y and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone non-technical. (Eg UX of login flow includes "Leave password blank if using a passkey or passwordless login.") I ended up using http://hover.com. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
  • What registrar is better than LetsHost?
For my .ie domains I use blacknight, hate it but cant be bothered to change, for everything else I use hover.com. They havnt caused me any problems but I don't actually use them for dns thats just where buy the domain. Source: about 3 years ago
  • How to setup two domains for use with Polylang?
Hey, I am currently creating a multilingual website with Polylang and I want to use two domains. How do I need to setup the domains for it to work? I bought the domains on hover.com and I use Siteground as my hoster, so I changed the nameservers from hover to Siteground for both domains. What else do I need to setup and where exactly? Is this forum the right one to ask for this? If not which one is? Source: over 3 years ago
  • Can't get emails working
At first I was trying to get the hover.com emails to work but their support even recommended going with someone else so I went with MailGun but now I feel like I've either done something wrong from the beginning and need to redo it all or I simply just don't understand what it is I need to do. • Author Website
Beware of "free" domain names or hosting with domain name. It's important that you and you only, control your domain name. If you get a "free" name with a hosting service, you may be tied to that service, no matter how lousy or expensive they become, because they control your domain name. I'm a semi-retired web developer. I recommend hover.com for domain names and Siteground.com for WordPress hosting. And... Source: almost 4 years ago
